Looking back at this scene, the appearance of the Dutchman, her sudden emergence from the raging sea, that groan of the hull like a beast. You'd think as an unlucky mariner you watched the devil's ship emerge from the depths of Hell itself.

This vessel was the embodiment of nightmares for sailors.
