For me, the story quest line is the whole point of the game. That's how you participate in the lore and become part of the story. I only use the side quests as necessary to level up so I can continue with the story.

I'm definitely a returning player and still got my level 50 Captain. However, I recently made a new character that is a high elven guardian. Can't wait to try it out and thank you for these tips!

Question: Can I switch between servers? Or am I stuck on one once I create my character? I am planning to play the game with a relative, so it would be good to know if I need to ask him what server he is on ahead of time.

I appreciate this. And the one about the classes you mentioned here that I went check out after which helped me decide on hunter. I've tried this game a couple times over the years and never had anything against it. I just always had other things going. Kind of giving it a hard look again since I don't think I'm ready to go back to FFXIV yet.

I don't know if I'll find what I'm looking for in terms of a game, or a community to stay long-term, but at least taking in some lore and exploring the world should be fun.

I don’t think anyone should START with Hunter tbh. Once you get into the swing of being able to port yourself ANYwhere you want to go, every other class feels… sad. 😂

Long time player here, picked up the game in 2012 on disc, subbed for years, left the game with 9 characters over 5 or 6 years ago, tried to log in recently and my account was gone. Started over as a free to play, went VIP 3 days later and I'm playing it again. What's weird is I have so many memories from this game that when I go back to certain places I know my way around. Thorin's Hall for example. What I hate about the game is how they nickel and dime the living crap out of you for inventory space and mount speed. But you do get a mount now for nothing even if it's like 38 percent speed. Used to have to level up to 20 and make it to Hengstacer Farm and pay. So that was a pleasant surprise. But the monetization is still pretty brutal. I'm saving every darn Lotro point I can. My two favorite characters, Warden and Lore Master. Warden was the first character I played. My Loremaster, I used to grow pipe tobacco in the Shire and watch my character smoke it. lol The different kinds of smoke rings you could make was pretty cool. Different kinds of tobacco too. There is really no MMORPG as detailed as LOTRO is. It's an unusual unique game.

Exactly what I needed, bought the game back in the day and started playing last weekend. Im level 21 now. I love the nostalgic feeling when playing this, like Everquest!

I always stick with warden. Came back to my old characters being in limbo, so I made another warden. Love them.

Great advice. I started with a burglar, and brand new to the game. I didn't like that, so I made a hunter. I liked that one. After a couple of weeks, I made a champion. I played that one for a couple of weeks. Then I found my calling. I made a hobbit minstrel, and that was it. The minstrel is the first class that really hooked me. It is also very new-player friendly. Cheers!

I would add, do your research then join a kin. So great to have folks to chat with in game and from whom to ask advice…particularly if you are back from a break.

LOTRO is cool and all but no one groups. Same thing with Everquest 2. I actually prefer warcraft cause people group up ALL the time starting at about lvl 10. LOTRO seems more like a solo game. i just dont see the point of playing a MMO alone. It might be some peoples cup of tea but not mine.

tip 12 . do not try to beat the game with quest gears/weapons only

i have gone completionnist route every time because i just cannot play any other way so i have just my main who is at endgame and that perfectly fine for me...i feel that you miss the goal of the game by skipping stuff and not reading.....also i dont care about being on level and the game gets boring once i each endgame...the leveling is the good part while endgame is just like any endgame meaning farming the same dungeons daily and some daily quests and thats pretty much it until the next expansion...cant get why anyone think its fun

oh and the last time i saw anyone being short on money was about 13 years ago...we're making tons just by playing now

Just discovered the channel and I can't believe it took me this long to do so. Looking forward to more content as I prepare to level my Mariner. Been playing since launch, but I love that I still learn something new from vids like this. Keep it up!

You can access East Angmar no problem without doing book 6. Just use fast travel to Gath Forthnír, using 1 mithril coin the first time to unlock it. That said, I prefer to do book 6.

I've been playing it for 7 years and if it wasn't for the free Valar package I would still be at level 75 😅

It's refreshing to see someone that seems to be around my age (almost 22) also playing lotro! I've been desperately searching for german speaking friends to play lotro with around my age on my server but to this day i havent't met anyone, still playing alone :/ most players on gwaihir are like 40 and that doesn't fit for me, we just don't click and we're too different

This is great advice, they are very useful to me. I have played lotro in its release, and then forgot about it. Years later I came back to play, pleasantly surprised to see so many people interested in the game, and a server well populated.

So the talent trees are O’Hare/Forest Park, Howard/95th/Dan Ryan, and Skokie Swift. Got it.

Pretty sure LothLorien has a couple insta-death situations too.

I would also mention the Stone of the Tortoise as a cheap purchase in the LOTRO store which can help avoid "out-levelling" areas too quickly. This is a very good solution for those who DO want to be a completionist but maintain a challenge all the way through the game.
