Michigan jug-handle turns make traffic go faster because people avoid them and travel on parallel roads without jug-handles.

Pasty is pronounced with the A in cat, and I'm surprised you didn't talk about Marquette or the Porcupine Mountains, or mention how Kiss is also from Detroit. But other than my nitpicking, great video!

Muskegon and Battle Creek are garbage overall, kalamazoo has a great music and art scene and western michigan university adds some college culture
Traverse City is a great city and Mackinac City as well

Flint, my hometown, you missed Unemployment capital of the US in the early 80s. The population when i was a kid in the 70s was 250,000! GM and UAW wars of the 70s destroyed the city. I left in 1983. It is a sad depressing shell of hopelessness now. BTW, the water has been bad since the late 60s. It's just they got busted in 2014 and couldn 't hide it anymore. I remember the city warning to no eat the fish in The Flint River because IT WILL KILL YOU!😮

As a Michigander, I learned to drive with Michigan lefts ingrained into me. I remember the first time I went out of state and was confronted with an actual left turn, I was shocked at how simple it was to just turn left. No clue what they were smoking when they came up with Michigan lefts, sorry everybody.

You pronounce Pasty like past-ee. This video was pretty accurate but I would have liked to hear about Mackinaw Island and the Tulip Time festival in Holland.

Michiganders and Yoopers pronounce "pasties" "PAGH-steez" not "PAY-steez"...
I can tell OP hasn't been to Frankenmuth... though props for bringing up the light German fried chicken.
The cherry and you-pick berries are a big thing especially in the rural western and northern parts of the mitten.
Michigan's Adventure is considered one of the lamest chain theme parks in America, but it's cute for the locals.
Don't forget the 10-cent rule on recycling pop bottles and cans... and yes Michiganders (except for inner city Detroit) say "pop" and not "soda". Soda is for baking.

In the summer of 2022 I visited Michigan for the first time. I visited the upper peninsula and stayed in Naubinway at the northermost point of Lake Michigan. On my way north I visited two cemeteries. One in Marinette, Wisconsin where my great great grandparents and one of my great grandmother's brothers are buried, and one across the river in Menominee, Michigan, where another of my great grandmother's brothers and other relatives are buried. As a Dane I never thought I should visit their graves.

Of course, someone else must have pointed out...pastie is past-ee, not paste-ee, and Houghton is ho-ton, not how-ton. Admittedly, we have a lot of tough-to-pronounce places in Michigan, including Ypsilanti, Charlevoix, Dowagiac, Hamtramck, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontonagon, Keweenaw, Ocqueoc...and more, most of which are not pronounced phonetically. Great video highlighting my home state. Thank you, Geography King!

You missed a huge beautiful isolated area. (isolated because the ONLY way there is to get in a car and drive to it - No bus, train or commercial air service) The Ludington Pentwater Oceana county area.... FANTASTIC state park and Ferry(5 months of year) service in Ludington . Pentwater is a very small tourist community - very quaint. Oceana county has 5 public golf courses that are GREAT - with REASONABLE prices.

The state has some of the worst roads in the country. In the Flint area, only the main roads are paved. The residential areas are dirt roads that are graded a couple of times per year. My sister lives just outside of Flint and I don't know how she stands it. Total hellhole. Other areas are beautiful. It is a tale of two lands.

"Michigan isn't known for its agricultural importance". I recently found that out from a video where people try foods and snacks primarily made and consumed in Michigan. One guy said something like "Michigan can't grow anything but potatoes because it's so cold" and later added "Think of Siberia and you have Michigan is. It's pretty much a TUNDRA". As a born and raised Michigan native who still lives there and picture living anywhere else, I find that as funny as it is surprising that anyone can think Michigan is a tundra that can't grow anything. I guess how I felt about those comments must be what the people of Finland, Canada, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands feel about such misconceptions of being only snow, ice and cold. If I were to compare Michigan to another place in the world, based on what I know about both places, including assumptions so take this with several big grains of salt, it would be the United Kingdom. I mostly based this on being mostly/entirely surrounded by water so there may be some similar fickle and even harsh weather and that both have a sort of lake monster legend. The UK has Nessie and we in Michigan have Bessie. It's not much but there's similarities. I don't know about other places, but pies or pastries filled with meat are a thing in the UK I think they just call 'meat pie' (please correct me if wrong) and they are a thing in Upper Michigan as well, but they're called a 'pasty' there. Pronunciation is more like saying 'pasta' (past/ Pohst) rather than 'pastry' (paste) and ending with the 'ee' by the way. We have 15 minute weather where it can suddenly rain out of nowhere, from a sprinkle to a full-on storm. Again, my knowledge is limited and it's more an impression of things Michigan has in common with the UK.

Opps - one more thing. I would like to defend the Michigan Left. It is actually a very safe and easy thing to do. Whenever, it is installed it reduces collisions by 30 to 60 percent and increases the speed of traffic flow. That's a real "Wow!" Left turns can be very, very dangerous. I lost a relative at one when he was waiting to turn left and got rear ended and pushed into the middle of the intersection. Also, when multiple lights are timed at intersections, they greatly impede traffic flow. Michigan Left Turns are certainly much better than the alternative of the "roundabout" or "rotary," where cars are coming at you from ALL directions. Actually, many states and other countries are beginning to adopt the Michigan Left. As far as Rotaries, the state of Michigan has installed some and most people absolutely hate them. The Michigan Left is sort of controlled Rotary with lights and easier merging. Maybe this might be a cool subject to explore further.

Thank you pointing out that "Michigan is a very pretty state." Yes, indeed it is! There is always something beautiful, like lakes and forests everywhere. My family has a cottage at the tip of Michigan's thumb. It is really cool to see the sun rise AND set over the massive waters of Lake Huron from the same spot. Our little bit of Heaven. I might add that Detroit is certainly improving. Housing prices are rising and the horrible, abandoned Michigan Central Station which was used in many a horror movie is being completely renovated by Ford Motor Company. It is starting to look great. BTW, during the early part of the 20th Century, Detroit was known as the "Paris of the Midwest." The city's incredible "Belle Isle Park" has been taken over by the state of Michigan, which greatly repaired and improved it. The park was once little used but now cars line up to get in, to park, fish, ride bicycles, canoe and just enjoy looping the five miles around the island. Last year, I met a park ranger who claimed that it is second only to Yellowstone in attendance. Don't know if that is true but he was really committed and enthusiastic!

The Michigan left is annoying but it's not all that common. Left turns are valid on more than half the roads near where I live in northeast Warren. Yeah Gratiot, Mound, Van dyke, Hall, and 16 mile all have those turns, but all the other mile roads from 9 to 26 at least are normal as well as Hayes, schoenherr, Garfield, dodge Park, Ryan, Dequindre, and most other roads are normal. Usually it's the tope 10% biggest roads that have those turns.

Upstate NYers DO NOT call hot dogs Michigans. First off Plattsburg is not a spot one would call representative of all upstate NY. Second, and more importantly. I believe you are being misled by the poster as the establishment is probably advertising them as that because they got the idea to put that particular sauce on some. Coneys (coe nies), many upstaters pronouce coo nies (very small amount, call them white hots). [Rule of thumb - NYers will never give another state credit for something they like (facts and accuracy have nothing to do with it). Making a quick buck off it can be an exception.] Michiganers in and around Detroit (The motor city) appear to believe they are simply born with the ability to drive. They are right on top for every place I have traveled in the US as - the worst/consistently most dangerous. Yup Syracuse (one could write a book on the various pronunciations - just in upstate NY, let alone globally) wins the "Snowball Award", but UP is far worse - that's probably why no one has been stupid enough to make a city there.
