Loved this place.. even with the many tourists..it couldnt detract from the beauty. We went there in Sept 2019 and it was full of hydrangeas and looked so picture perfect in photos. Really liked going around the Netherlands.. you reach everywhere in a few hours!!

good day people, 3 days ago there was discrimination in giethoorn with a resident who is not Dutch. I don't recommend a single tourist to come to Giethoorn anymore. Because every inhabitant of Giethoorn has discriminatory behaviour.

Great video. Do you need some kind of license to rent those boats?

I/we, my wife and I loved this video! We have visited Giethoorn as it was on our Netherlands "bucket-list" A truly fairytale place. Since that time we have been back to the Netherlands many times staying for as long as three months in 2017. A truly beautiful country with so much to see/do/enjoy. Unfortunately Covid and all its annoyances, restrictions, tests etc. etc. have put a stop to our travels there hopefully only temporarily. I did chuckle at your story about the Dutch woman who advertised Giethoorn in Beijing China subsequently resulting in a deluge of tourists from China. We have been there in "high" season and have seen the "results" of that advertising and I can truly say that I I sometimes feel sorry for the residents of Giethoorn.

You guys are amazing! We are planning to go this weekend.. Might get too crowded, you think?

Also did you guys come back some day or stay the night? If yes, do you have any recommendations for an overnight stay?

Yeah, if it gets busy during covid-times, you can only imagine what it would be like during high season. I can remember in summer it will usually go on national news when there are boat-traffic-jams in the canals of Giethoorn...

How much did you spend for renting the boat?

We've been twice, once was really early spring before anything was blooming and it was packed! This past summer we went as well and it was still busy, but obviously with local visitors and students. Had a great vibe but canals still got packed in the afternoon! My best recommendation is to stay the night (we did it both times) since you get the evenings and mornings without crowds 😁 We live in Amsterdam and don't have cars so we just try to get the earliest train in and spend as much time as possible there!
