It was all intentional, the supposedly "defective" torpedoes.
Here's a thought experiment:
Let's get the design and pictures of the supposedly "defective" torpedoes, and do a deep-dive on exactly what they were, what the "defect" was, and how quickly and easily the "defective" torpedoes could have been re-engineered and made effective. Some kind of "field expedient" modification or repair, that might have been done even while the submarine was underway, at sea, and at war.
Let's see the book that's been published that delves deep into the actual mechanical and technical characteristics of the Mark IV torpedoes, and how a focused US Navy, intent on winning the war, and preserving the lives of it's submariners, and it's submarines, might have been able to quickly, easily and cheaply modified the "defective" torpedoes into effective and functional torpedoes.

My guess is that none of that information exists, and that it was intentionally destroyed in order to cover-up their crimes of intentional sabotage, and treason during time of war.

Disagree? Let's see the schematics of the defective torpedoes that details exactly how and why they did not work.

I find it difficult to believe that Bletchley Park provided much in the way of data to influence the war in the Pacific. Surely that would have been down to the US' own radio interception and cryptographers?

I would love a video on US Naval aviation in the war in Pacific and how big an impact it had on dogfighting and seeking Japanese ships to close air support. 💙🙏

Yamamoto, the commander of the Japanese navy, attended Harvard. It's crazy to think of him living in Massachusetts, going to school, but he did. Look it up.

The difference between a Japanese soldier and an American soldier is that essentially all Japanese soldiers had no fear of dying for his nation; American soldiers did. The Japanese were also better trained and had better equipment at the outset of the war. In this case, they never would have used unreliable torpedoes as the US Navy did. The only reason we defeated the Japanese was because we had much greater resources. In Europe, had Hitler not attacked the Soviets, D-Day would never have been attempted as the shores Normandy would have been better protected. Hitler destroyed Germany, some say purposely with all his stupid military blundering. I have often entertained the idea that Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto Pearl Harbor also was in cahoots with America. Had he not attacked Pearl Harbor, America would never have entered the war. Why did he attack then? His famous quote, "I fear I have only awoken a sleeping giant" implies he knew Japan would eventually be defeated. Then why not just defend the gains Japan made in South East Asia and leave America alone? Finally, he was taught by a US missionary in his youth and spent 2 years at Harvard and was a naval attache. Could he have been subverted during his time in America? We'll never know.

The stupid idea of the twenties and thirties that war should be outlawed seem ridiculous today. It’s result was to reduce American and other countries defenses. In 1940, America had the 17th largest military, behind some third world countries. Sometimes what seems to be a great idea lacks credibility. Laws and regulations do not control the actions of countries over which America has no control. TODAY, THERE IS A NOTION THAT THE WORLD SHOULD BECOME ONE “NATION” WITHOUT BORDERS. ARE THERE ANY CHANGES IN THE BEHAVIORS OF ROGUE NATIONS OR MAJOR COMPETITORS? I think not! America needs a strong defense to let others know we will not be manipulated! Politicians often see military as a waste of money, mostly because they desire to make themselves “ look good to voters” by spending on nonessential programs. All spending by the government needs to be monitored by officials but we must have a security sense to ensure citizen’s have their chance at the “ American Dream”.

About 750 German uboats were sunk in ww2, for an average success rate of 7 merchant ships per uboat. American submarines averaged 20 or more merchant ships sunk for each submarine lost, almost 3 times the U-boat rate.

I believe much of WW2 history as fake narratives, cause and effect is more believable to me than fluke chance, as we say, follow the $$, follow the gain of power. Franklin Roosevelt knew how to create a strong enemy, how to get public support for global war, how to insure histories biggest mass murderer Joseph Stalin would win histories biggest war WW2, and the rest was totally predictable..ie..the Chinese Communist revolution

During WW1 the Japanese Navy mostly served as escorts for allied merchant shipping in the Indio-Pacific area. They saw this as an INFERIOR duty compared to the actions of the allied navies in the Atlantic and Mediterranean areas. The WW1 junior offices of the IJN became the senior officers of WW2 and this, initially at least, affected their attitude to anti submarine escort duties.
In the Atlantic the allies were reading the radio messages sent to the German submarines. In the Pacific the allies were reading the radio messages sent to all the ships of Japan.

Please dont use the phrase 'British Navy', it is called The Royal Navy.
By 1945 the Japanese had hardly any ships over 500gt. You cant move enough cargo to keep a country alive, let alone run a war, with such small vessels.

Part of the reason for the success of US submarines was the nature of Japan's internal divisions where all the commanders all wanted to be part of big strategic offensives and the different branches didn't necessarily get along or trust each other and often tried to shift mundane defensive tasks onto others. The result was most supply escorts were second rate ships and/or boats that happened to be going the same way.

The simple fact of the Battle of the Atlantic: the Allies could only lose by persistent incompetence. As long as American shipyards could produce ships essentially at will, the Germans couldn't win. Sir John Keegan said there were actually only two months where sinkings exceeded American production of new vessels ( The Price of Admiralty ?)

Now, if Hitler had not wasted an astonishing amount of resources on stuff like pocket battleships and V2 rockets, perhaps the Germans could have built enough U-boats to make a difference. But I doubt it. They had the problem the Japanese had - their industrial base simply couldn't outproduce ours. Once that productive might was allied with Soviet industry, it was a war the Germans couldn't win.

It's amazing that Japan didn't learn from the British, another maritime empire.
Britian needed to import raw materials.
Britian nearly lost, if not for the lend-lease.
Unfortunately Japan didn't have anything similar to lend-lease.
