My great grandfather Rex was a fighter pilot in the war, and went on to work for NASA as an engineer. When he passed away close to 15 years ago, I was given his old bomber jacket. After watching these videos the last couple of days I might be inclined to ask my mother more about his time in the war as she’s been documenting our family’s genealogy for over 20 years now.

just lost my Dad........7-4-2023. He was 27th Infantry on Saipan, Okinawa and other places. I "interrogated" him at the end for more detail of the experiences he went through so I could write them down and pass them onto the generations that follow. LOVED this episode, Just subscribed.

I had uncle who's name was John hilla and he singed up for the marines in 1938 and served in every single battle in the pacific war form gudcal Canal to the battle of Okinawa

I’m 75, my dad fought in WW2, I asked him questions which he wouldn’t give a definitive answer. I was drafted in 1969. When I returned home all he said now you know why I will not talk about it. I grabbed him and cried. Till this day I refuse to answer any questions.

America will never have another generation like the one's who fought in ww2 🇺🇸🫡🥹😊

Such a great historical video..and gentleman! My mother went by ship in 1940..at 28 years old and chaperone by an auntie..to serve as a nurse in Africa. The trip was in the middle of the war..and so they had to darken the ship at night..and all the passengers were given weighted...inflatable "wet suit"..to wear..and had night time drills in case of needing to use them. Unimaginable hardships on both sides! War is terrible!

To Stand a 4 hour watch in the jungles of Guam.. would rattle anybody's cage.. I served on Guam from March 83/June 84.. and walk through those jungles where the Japanese executed by beheading hundreds of Civilians.. and I swear in those dark nights You could hear voices.. beckoning you.. the hair on my arm still stands up when I think about it.. Sir, you have some "brass balls".. and you make me proud to be a MARINE.. SEMPER FIDELIS/SEMPER FORTIS

My father, Phillip J. Lopez served in the Pacific Theatre with the USMC in WWII. He was an amphibious tractor operator, transporting soldiers to the beaches in combat. RIP to the greatest generation.

What a great man, I was set to enlist in the Marines in the summer of 1981 and my plan was to join the marines and become the marines middleweight champion of boxing, the spring prior I brought my best friend to seatac airport on his way to bootcamp for the Army, I was the person who picked him up after bootcamp and he talked me out of going to the Marine Corps, it's my greatest regret of my life, I had beaten 4 different Washington state champions in AAU sanctified bouts when I was younger, there's no way I compare to this great man. I was set to be a k9 handler as I raised dobermans as a teenager

I was on Gusm 3 years ago. Hot,sharp coral rock,steep cliffs. Hard place to fight a war.
