We are literally known for the incredible way we always manage to bottle qualifying for the Euros or World Cup as well as our horrifically unfortunate luck at times. The list of bottlejobs is endless.
A few things you missed which I think are important to put into context how often this happens:
We needed a point against the Czechs and manager at the time Craig levein decided to play a 4-6-0 formation which is just beyond embarrassing to still go on to lose the match.
In 2008 we managed to beat a prime France squad both home and away with James Mcfaddens insane goal which is regarded as scotlands greatest ever goal and still managed to not qualify.
In the 2010 World Cup qualifiers we actually managed to go out on goal difference to Norway thanks to us losing against Macedonia in our opening game.
In 2016 euro qualifying we managed to lose to Georgia yet again meaning we finished below Ireland for a play off spot.
In 2018 we yet again manage to finish 3rd in our group and yet again this is thanks to goal difference. Drawing with Lithuania didn’t help.
We have finished 3rd in our respected group more times than any other country in international qualifying history….
As a Scotsman... I'll just say, this aged well...
ОтветитьNah both the Scottish national football team and England team are cursed by fifa tbh.
I reckon it goes way back to 1920 when then fifa secretary cornelis hirschmann was outraged by the sfa and fa as they led a mutiny and quit fifa to set up the rival board ifab (still around to this day but it only governs rules now)
Fifa were obviously threatened by this and placed a curse on both national sides. And let's face it the sheer amount of bad luck both teams have at international tournaments defies belief. With England it's near constant heartache with penalties or just not winning anything.
With Scotland it's getting plagues by injuries and or scandals at tournaments before and after them and never getting out of a group stage ever...
At this point it has to be clear something esoteric is the cause.
Anyway I say before scotland or England even bother going to another major tournament that curse set down by hirschmann and his 1920s fifa cronies will have to be lifted one way or another😉🤫
Here after 100th minute goal 😂😂
ОтветитьMate I've been through it all with the Scottish team. We have been very very unlucky. But now we have a team with belief. No Scotland No Party. 🏴🏴🏴
Ответитьit’s not that impressive scotland beat a spain team that was using a bunch of nobodies spsin only had rodri spain use a way better team and their home and spain. won. 2-0 spain should of won. 6-0 they dominated the home game
ОтветитьI hope Scotland win EURO 2024.
ОтветитьStevie Clarke did good at Westbrom he got them ever there highest ever finished in the primer league. Also he can take a Scottish team and win the league title outside the old firm. When he done with Scotland i would like him to take one of the Edinburgh team's or the Aberdeen job.
ОтветитьI'm swiss and always look forward to play against our neighboring countries
ОтветитьBorn in scotland live in scotland and my blood is pure scottish
ОтветитьNO SCOTLAND NO PARTY
Ответитьyass keem on
Ответитьthing is though we don't expect the national team to win anything or be in competitions but fuck me when we win and qualify you know for a fact the full country is partying!!
ОтветитьSteve Clarke took West Brom to there highest ever prem finish I'm sure
ОтветитьMate. I know we (scotland/england) have had some frosty moments in the past, we dont hate you. We just like to take the p!ss out of each other right. We just see you as like the pantomime villain right, and we only get aggressive when others hit a nerve. After all were only human.
Your alright mucker (mate/friend). Nice video
Clarke's appointment was a bit of a perfect storm. For the first time since probably McLeish's first stint in charge we have a manager that was in touch with the game as it stands, as opposed to being a bit of a has been (McLeish mkII, Burley, and, to some extent, Strachan), combined with some of the best Scottish talent emerging since probably the late 80's/early 90's. BUT the away defeat to Spain, along with the hefty friendly losses to England and France are a reality check to where we're at. Hopefully we can establish ourselves as a top 20 side globally, and on the fringes of the top 10 within UEFA. We ought to be capable of reaching the last 16 in Germany next year, and maybe the QFs with a favourable draw.
ОтветитьClarke’s time at Reading and WBA was definitely something to speak about. Gave WBA their best finish (8th) since 1981 and took Reading to their first FA Cup final in 88 years. Not sure how you can dismiss that.
Also, didn’t really touch the surface of our failings in qualifying. Ok video though
We are fucking massive 🏴
Ответитьthing a lot of people don't understand is scotland and england are for the most part only sport rivals(nowadays), when it comes to sport we get very passionate and patriotic, most of us have absolutely no bad blood for english people but we love the rivalry. I have tonnes of english friends that support scotland over even england when they play but us scots will never be seen supporting england over north macedonia never mind us
ОтветитьUninformed, bigoted English pish.
ОтветитьCan you please make a video about Polish national team crisis in recent months?
ОтветитьI remember kind of between 2015-2021 people around me felt apathetic, it’s now nice to see people looking towards international breaks excited
ОтветитьWe did have a strong team in 07/08 that had an outside chance of winning Euro 2008. Were in not for the fact the fact we also had two World Cup finalists and a quarter finalist in our group.
Ответитьhope we can go all the way for the euros 🥲
ОтветитьGreat video mate 🏴just hope we dodge england in group draw 😂. Scotland to lift the Euros 20 years on from the greatest underdog story 🤔😂one can hope!😂
ОтветитьI'll never forget, or forgive, Craig Levein playing that 4-6-0 formation against the Czech Republic! I still don't know what he was thinking!
ОтветитьAs a Scotsman, I am so proud of the team! Their form in the first 5 games of the qualifiers was amazing, beating Spain and Norway, which was fantastic! I hope that we get a favourable draw in the Euros so that we have a chance of getting through to the knockout stages!
ОтветитьI live in New Zealand, but I've got a lot of Scottish ancestry and have started following the national team in the last few years (as well as the domestic league!). It's cool to see them doing so well!
ОтветитьReally happy for them!
Took us, Wales, decades to even qualify.
Whenever I see countries do well it puts a smile on my face. Good job, Scotland 👏🏻
Just came across your channel bud, awesome content. As a Scottish guy its great to see an English man speaking highly of us. New subscriber. Oh and aye we might not be the best right now but we are on our way to being able to compete against the better teams. Scotland 🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪
ОтветитьThanks for that brother 🏴
ОтветитьA finisher in the mould of a Kenny Miller would make the world of difference to Scotland.Dykes and Adams are good honest pro's,but you don't expect them to put the ball in the net every other game in dark blue.
ОтветитьIt's, "self-deprecating", not depreciating...
de-pre-cate-ing. 👍
Not only will they have made 2 back to back euros but they will undoubtedly make 3 back to back to back euros since their co hosting the euros in 2028
I have strong faith they’ll b there for that 1 as well
I saw now the doc from Copa 90, very good👏🔥 thanks for recomendation👍
ОтветитьAs a Scotland fan, who lived in England for a long time. I’ve felt comfortable wanting all the home nations to do well. Finally Scottish players are playing in EPL, Italy and some players are getting runs on Europe. That’s definitely helps.
ОтветитьWe are a 3rd rate football country punching above our weight at the moment but don't worry reality will kick back in we just dont have the calibre of olayer we had in 70s 80s and 90s
ОтветитьI've been said the official anthem for the Scotland 2024 campaign shall be "Just don't Come Home Too Soon"... again. Bad jokes aside, scottish football fans are good people and i wish them and their team all the best.
ОтветитьThis is terrible as an englishman
ОтветитьI often compare being a Scottish person who follows the national team to what I imagine being a junkie is like - we hate it but we keep coming back for more🤦♂️
Until recently though.. stevie Clarke has worked wonders. Brought back a real team who will fight for every inch of ground.
We’re not going to win the euros.. but we’re going to give it our best go to have a run at it.
That’s all we have ever wanted.
enjoy seeing an englishman no just bullying us
ОтветитьScotland are a proud nation, and are proud to be Scottish. We now have a TEAM to be proud of not a nation to be proud of. We are already a proud nation.
ОтветитьI know as Englishman I shouldn’t say this but it’s hard not to enjoy the atmosphere at Scotland matches as their supporters are passionate. 👍
Ответитьas a scot, i find it funny that we qualified before england, i support hearts so im used to losing but not for scotland, UP THE SCOTS
ОтветитьI honestly don't think it's 'weird' to want other teams around us to do well tbh. Sure there's rivalries but I think it's great when Wales, Scotland and Ireland etc do well!
ОтветитьOnly thing I’d argue with, in an otherwise great doc, is that Scotlands don’t play an attractive style of football ‘by any means’. Couldn’t disagree more. Watch our goals over the few qualifications. Superb football at times, especially through Gilmour/McGregor and down our left side.
ОтветитьCmon the Scots,I'm scotishhhhhh!!!!!
ОтветитьI have been surprised at the expressed indifference Sottish football supporters have for international football... They often seem to resent internationals as a disruption of their clubs pursuit of the SPL.. It's like how English football once was like.. Back in the early history of the World cup The English did not take it seriously.. When England had probably the best national team and could have won a few world cups they did not but in any serious effort.. Of course later the English did end up wanting World cup success but by that time other nations had developed good professional players and teams like Brazil Argentina and Germany took turns at holding up the World cup...
ОтветитьYou should do a vid on the fall and rise of the United States
