It's because the best American, Hawaiian, and Australian surfers don't want to compete in the WSL. If you can make your money free surfing, like the Florence family, then why would you choose to surf in the WSL? If you can make more money with a regular job why risk spending all your money on the QS grind? The top pros make good money, but the bottom of the CT bracket isn't exactly rolling in it. It's a shitty career path and it's not the best surfing "job".

It is interesting because alot of people do not like them in the lineup. I am not sure if they do not follow the etiquette if it is a cultural difference or they just do not care.

There are a lot of Brazilian surfers here at the moment and locals have remarked how aggressive they are. Australia isn't a cheap place to come to so I doubt they are poor.
All south America people have a contempt for anyone who looks English.
