A new generation of Chinese are challenging the values and traditions that have been the foundation of the nation’s modern successes. Hard work, whether to build your future, beat your competitor or just get rich before you are too old, have long been core values in China. But what happens when a new generation of workers starts to question such ideas? Terms like “lying flat” and more recently “let it rot” have been used to describe a movement brewing among young Chinese who seem ready to give up when faced with challenges such as widespread unemployment and a high cost of living.

its simple
working place now only looking for experience people because they don't want to train you at all, once you meet the requirements they just let you do your job and figure it by yourself the problems.

the most radical job application i have seen require a min of 25Y WITH working experience of 5 YEARS

Every era has its ups and downs and they have continued & lived. Many have not given up. This is a great time to develop intrinsic motivation & other strengths. China today has the most advanced technology, infrstructure & least poverty. The younger genertaion should appreciate all this. Use all this to find new ways of simple living & working. Be problem-solvers rather than problem-complainers.

it just makes me sad that its the people who have to suffer the consequences. Then they try to find better opportunities elsewhere in other countries and the natives of that country accuse them of stealing jobs. No matter what happens, its the ordinary everyday citizens who take the blame for things outside of their control.

Thats natural to happen, in a system where the rich get richer. Someone who has a billion dollars is very safe to be broke ever again. Even if he loses most if it, he most likely will still have a few millions. When the rich buy most of the real estate’s, how is the normal folks going to buy it?

It’s crazy given China is facing the most rapidly aging population in the history of the planet. This generation and the next few will have to work to support those aging out of the work force but they can’t find jobs appropriate to their education and are staying out of the work force all together? Crazy.

i’m american and the way the government said “all kong yiji had to do was work harder!!!” is the mentality that all boomers seem to have meanwhile they haven’t had to worry about a job for decades and their idea of hard work is “go around town passing out resumes and shaking hands, you’ll have to get a job.” or the old “hard work pays off” and “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” … times are changing and that stuff just doesn’t resonate and doesn’t work anymore.

I would say that this is also a pretty common and rising phenomenon in the west with the growth of the anti-work movement, the hikikomori "movement" in japan etc. People are more and more becoming disillusioned with the societal expectations.

It's pretty much everywhere. After uni, only 4 of us from the group of 50 were lucky enough to get jobs in the same field. And I'm talking IT here, not really something niche.
I was the "lucky" one. And yet, despite earning a little over average wage I'm nowhere near close of getting myself a place to live, let alone starting a family. And job is constant rat race, and if you refuse to participate, if you're just doing your job, you're "quiet quitting" or whatever BS human resources make up these days.

Once you get to the other side of what an employer looks for when hiring, applying for jobs becomes a lot easier. But often without this intelligence, it’s difficult to know what employers look for. I once managed a team where the previous leader hired out of his gut feel, and it was a mess. I wanted to hired one person that didn’t have the experience but I knew he was mathematically and challenge focused. I was called an idiot by my manager at the time.

In the end he wasn’t hired. 3 yrs later in a different company he was awarded multiple awards and promotions for innovation.

it's normal. Capitalism is about competing, stimulating growth. when someone owns the spot, someone will lose it. The system will never collapse because of this. when people give up their spot there will always be someone who is will to fight for it. Someone with the resilient to survive. Happiness is relative, some people will correlate it with money and success ,some just don't. no right answer here just a matter of choice.

The mismatch in expectations was predictable, and the CCP has no idea how to respond, except by force. Some "western countries" also had their gen x moment, their companies and governments are to this day unable to understand the difference between material wealth and fulfilling work.
