1982. Wow. I was a sophmore in high school, living about 15 miles away from this festival. Not too long afterward, I went to the big concert in Anahiem stadium with the Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Foreignor, and Lover Boy. But looking back, I'd rather have seen Cindy and the B-52s. Cindy is glorious here.

Original lineup of the band was always my favorite. The sound here is not great, but suffice it to say that this is a ground breaking performance. Ricky's tunings and Surf Guitar riffs are interstellar and paired with Cindy's haunting vocals they deliver the message that "something's up and you better get used to it". I saw them earlier at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles shortly after the release of The B-52's eponymous first album. Pretty short set, but man the crowd was on it's feet from the start and never rested. Last time I saw them was at Rodney Strong winery in Sonoma County, CA. It was some 40 years later right before they called it quits and they still delivered a fabulous set of their greatest hits out on the lawn as we drank wine and enjoyed appetizers and smoked a bit of stuff. Rock on B-52s! Your music never gets old. Its just we who get older!

The US festival was the Only good thing my Dad did for me after the Divorce from my mom.
Heavy Metal and New Wave day were the Best.
I was So young.
But Crue, Ozzie, Bowie, Stray Cats, Priest just to name a few.
It was Insane.
I still think about random things from that concert.

I love how everyone is so committed to this song. Fred looks so pleased about his glockenspiel solo. Cindy gives the vocals her all (as usual) and dances so that her dress is basically another member of the band. Kate plays her part very professionally: it's not her song so she doesn't try to upstage anyone. And Ricky... well, he's messed about with the tuning on his guitar and produced something really special.

Really wished they showed Cindy dancing more. They really missed a lot of her dancing focusing on the guitar. I little wider shot would have been the answer.
