Buy only physical disc games, the digital versions lead to the cloud version, which leads to "You will own nothing and be happy" - Klaus Schwab WEF, future planetary ruler. Same guy who wants everyone to eat the bugs and have zero meat and fake plant proteins synthetically made in labs. Same thing applies to computing, don't go for those crappy 'chrome book laptops'
Ответитьnow no wonder for FFXIV is still sucks ...quantity instead quality
ОтветитьI bought FF7R on PC and Crisis Core on PC. If it's not on PC or it's not in English then as far as I'm concerned, it does not exist.
ОтветитьGod damn most are Only remasters or remakes...what happened to original IP's...?
ОтветитьThis video was really well done. More of these!
ОтветитьFinal Fantasy VII Remake Integrade was released in 2021 on PC, though.
ОтветитьHey, I love Neo: the World Ends with you. And I still have my original The World Ends with you game here. 😊
Ответитьgood news, they're killing Chocobo GP!
ОтветитьQuantity over quality.
ОтветитьWatching this video late, but I absolutely love Harvestella. While it doesn't bring anything new to either the JRPG, dungeon crawler, or farming sim formula, the way it combines the two is stunning, and the characters really drive things in a fun way that gives me strong Kingdom Hearts energy. It's actually slowly creeping up past Kingdom Hearts as my favorite game of all time.
Ответитьremake of XENOGEARS will be great!!
ОтветитьYou missed various day life. That’s okay because it was completely missable 😆
Ответитьhow am i supposed to get to these when i am not even caught up w previous year's releases?
ОтветитьWow a lot of japanese exclusive , kinda ironic what i hear SE want to dis the Japanese audionts ...
ОтветитьI really don't see how those 35 games make a financial sense. Most of those games cater to the same crowd, and people can only buy and play so many games.
ОтветитьNot to nitpick, but you did leave off one, Various Daylife was released for PC, Switch and PS4 this year too same day as Voice of Cards Beasts of Ruin for PC/Switch and the 16th for PS4
Ответитьthe PSP renaissance is such cute vibes for our lives tbh
ОтветитьI'm so happy with the new Star Ocean, it's a great game! And it's truly a miracle that it released. Hope it did well enough for tri-Ace. Miss those guys, Radiata Stories was one of my favorite games of the PS2.
ОтветитьThanks lovely video
ОтветитьYou missed various daylife switch port
ОтветитьI forgot about chrono cross and just picked it up!
ОтветитьI'm still wondering when the Kingdom Hearts games will stop being epic shit exclusive and finally come to Steam where it belongs.
ОтветитьWasn't Various Daylife published by Square this year as well?
ОтветитьI wish Capcom would follow suit. They are technically half the size, but they always seem to be Monster Hunter/RE pooping machines. It's weird how Squeenix released 35 games this year and Capcom released.. 2 expansion DLCs lol.
ОтветитьI genuinely did not know the single player dq10 already came out
Damn
It feels like SE has shifted into releasing a lot of modest AA titles after their AAA stuff has struggled to make a profit outside FFXIV and FFVII Remake. Avengers lost money, Guardians of the Galaxy underperformed (largely thanks to negative opinions on Avengers) and the selling of big Western properties to Embracer likely stems from not effectively being able to get big returns on them.
I'm also curious if Square Enix can afford to ignore Nintendo for releases (barring the major projects that need stronger hardware). Especially for the Japanese audience that are the backbone for JRPG sales, putting out a mid level title in that region and not having it on Switch increasingly means its almost DOA in the market. One wonders of Star Ocean 6 would have gotten more visibility via a Nintendo Direct and stronger numbers if it had gotten a Switch port.
It's crazy that there are still more to be mentioned. Dungeon Encounters and Front Mission come to mind. They have been busy.
ОтветитьI absolutely adore the Star Ocean series, and Divine Force has been one of my highlights of the year.
Honestly, as a lifelong RPG fan who endured the droughts of the PS360 era, I'll take being spoiled for choice any day xD
You forgot the release of the rest of dark road if that counts.
ОтветитьYear of the SRPG Triangle Strategy my game of the year at least so far.. Still have yet to play through Horizon 2 and God of War 5.. Additionally Tactics Ogre remake, Front Mission remake, and Diofield Chronicle(Ronnie James?) Oh and year of the cat Stray & Klonoa remaster
ОтветитьI have already bought 6 Square Enix games this year (Stranger of Paradise, Chrono Cross Remaster, Live a Live, Valkyrie Elysium, Star Ocean: Divine Force and Crisis Core Remake) and I plan to get Dragon Quest Treasures to. The most games I have ever bought from a single publisher in a single year ever. I have enjoyed each of them, some more some less but all of those were good. I also played Echoes of Mana and Champions of the Continent mobile games. I have to say, Square Enix is so great this year, so many games and such a variety and kinda reminds me of their PS1 days when they used to released a lot of games in short time spans. Sure it isn't on the level of quality of PS1 masterpieces but it is pretty good.
ОтветитьIs various daylife in the video?
ОтветитьNever liked Square Enix and honestly I’m fed up to see them in every nintendo direct.
ОтветитьActually a good video topic
ОтветитьSometimes I feel that Square Enix is just a loose collaboration of a bunch of independent corporate entities. In the 90s, games were developed a lot quicker and were much smaller in scope and needed to sell less to turn a profit. But games got bigger. And Nintendo realized that, and shut down a bunch of internal teams, causing many franchises to die off, but arguably, the surviving franchises to strengthen. If you look at the core Nintendo EPD games on switch, there is very little overlap: Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon. I have to go watch Jon's video again, but in my head, these are 5 independent Nintendo teams delivering the highest qualify experiences they can.
But Square Enix, for better or worse, maintains a ton of teams with extremely similar games. Even forgetting about the fact that nearly all of these games are RPGs, let's think about games/series like Valkyrie Elysium and Star Ocean the Divine Force. Action RPGs released a month apart that don't have Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest in their name. No advertising, no press coverage, just released and forgotten. Any other studio would have abandoned these series.
And then there are the super questionable decisions. Like, Platinum Games and Babylon's Fall. Platinum Games makes good games, I know they do, I know they can. But it really felt like Square Enix asked them to make the wrong game. I know Live Service games are all the rage, but it just wasn't gonna happen. Or how about Forspoken, the game that DIDNT come out this year, but feels like it's consuming a huge amount of talent and marketing budget. What is that game? It feels destined to fail, but yet it's considered one of their most ambitious projects.
The only bright spot (for me) has been the rise of TEAM ASANO. I love all of their games, and it feels like they've been given the greenlight for a bunch more. Bring it on!
That Octopath Traveller 2 is already becoming a thing really undermines Triangle Strategy
ОтветитьIt’s ridiculous how many games they’ve put out, and some seemingly put out just to die
Ответитьvoice of cards is a real hidden gen! Especially the third.. I hope they also release a physical version at some point. Stranger of Paradise also great but I would not say its gameplay has much in common with Nioh.. it's a Diablo+Ninja Gaiden mesh up... even tho u are not fighting alone. You are right tho it is really too much stuff too little time..
ОтветитьSquare Enix is desperate to make a game that sells very well, considering most of their games released in recent years have been commercial failures. But that desperation has only made them compete with themselves because there are way too many square games releasing too close to each other, too fast.
ОтветитьFront mission 1st remake comes out next week also.
ОтветитьReally enjoyed Live A Live and am having a lot of fun with Tactics Ogre. Their brand new stuff seems to struggle unfortunately (though I'm curious to try Triangle Strategy sometime).
ОтветитьDragon Quest X still hurts...
Great video Derrick!
I really hope Star Ocean doesn't get lost in the shuffle as you say. Its a top tier game for me. Might not have the budget of Final Fantasy, but it has a lot more soul than the FF games I've played
ОтветитьPowerWash Simulator GOTY
ОтветитьSquare has been my favorite 3rd party since the glory days of Square Soft on PS1. Triangle Strategy was incredible. Live A Live, DioField Chronicle, Valkyrie Elysium, Star Ocean the Divine Force, and Harvestella were all solid, fun games. Tactics Ogre Reborn was a great remake. Chrono Cross was a bit disappointing but to play it on Switch is a dream. Looking forward to Front Mission First Remake, Crisis Core, and Dragon Quest Treasures. Stranger in Paradise was a dumpster fire.
ОтветитьI got trailers for The Centennial Case out the Ying-Yang.
ОтветитьI got trailers for The Centennial Case out the Ying-Yang.
ОтветитьRe-releasing Tactics Ogre has been the decision I’ve celebrated the most. That franchise and its music deserve to never be forgotten.
