From 60 to 62 it was a super power struggle

Commies wanted the resources for nukes many like my country Ireland deployed soldiers for the un and fought in the Congo.

The French mining industry hired mercs to back Katanga until 62 they switch sides and fought against communists.

Now while this is happening it’s not like blacks are sitting by watching they fully took part in choosing sides and picking who they want to work with in the future.

It’s the simba uprising in 63-64 or the genocide against whites and Muslims that changed everything. Again was now backed by Soviets and china in a genocide against whites.

Yes the mercs sent in did commit countless crimes. For instance when they responded to the first attack from the simba rebels 15 thousand civilians white black and Muslims where slaughtered by African tribes against colonialism. The mercs were the first responders. Over 20 buckets full to the top with severed hands and 500 people either partly eaten or parts like their liver taken out and eaten.

These mercs then went on to a simba town burned it to the ground and probably killed thousands. That’s a correct response to eating 500 civilians like animals

Congo was never an entity before colonialism, why waste resources to force it into one entity? why force an alien constitution on them? These remain unanswered and are the reason why so much sh*t is going on in modern Africa.

It’s funny how all of these African nations begged for independence, and after getting it, immediately devolved into slaughtering their “own” people who wanted their own form of independence…

It’s almost like there’s a human desire, regardless of race, to dominate others, amass wealth, and forcefully snuff out dissent. Why did the Africans hate the arbitrary borders drawn by the Europeans, yet, then slaughtered each other to keep them following the European departure?

tldr, the CIA and Belgium assassinated an up and coming African leader to maintain the exploitative system that western benefited from. Then they installed a brutal dictator who basically was an African Leopold that was warmly welcomed many times at the white house

Why did you gloss over HOW the UN destroyed Katanga? Former deputy director of the FBI, Dan Smoot , wrote a book about it. It was done with outright murder of civilians on a massive scale- machine gunning unarmed men, women, and children at road blocks, and assaults on clearly marked hospitals, schools, and public buildings.

Not sure why you're downplaying the role of the CIA, and their role in the execution of Patrice Lumumba.
President Kennedy was ready to intervene in help Patrice, but Allen Dulles director of the CIA, knew what Kennedy was going to do and it had Patrice delivered into the hands of his enemies and executed.
You're really down playing the role of global capitalism along with the Central intelligence agency and the toppling of democratically elected leaders

That Lumumba was executed is putting it quite mildly. He was tortured, murdered and buried nearby. They then blamed his death on angry local villagers, and proceeded to dig his body back up, cut it into pieces, dissolved those in acid and burned any remains. ( All of this was, to an extent supported by Belgium). Oh and of course the CIA also planned to murder him.

artificially created nations with no sense of national identity forged over a long time are bound to fracture. I think even if the belgians had stuck around and done the withdrawal properly, at best things would have stayed stable a few years or decades longer before the same thing happened anyway.

I served in the Irish Army in the 1980's with 2 guys who fought at Jadotville. They always said they were there to protect the mines, to this day nobody has confirmed who ordered them to Jadotville. They were treated appalling by the Irish Government and the Irish Military who would have preferred if they fought to the last man instead of laying down their arms. One is still alive and can report he is in good health and as sharp as a tack, was only 19 when he fought at Jadotville.

Casualties also includes injured, by the way. It is commonly used as a more formal-sounding way to say "deaths", but that is incorrect. This is assuming that you're just citing the Wikipedia figure of 100,000 deaths--if you have a source that says it was 100,00 killed and injured then my bad.

You failed to mention that it was mainly European mercenaries, in particular the anglophone 5 Commando (the Wild Geese) led by Mike Hoare, that put down the Lumumbist Simba insurgency in the Congo from August 1964 to October 1965. 5 Commando was mainly staffed by Rhodesian and South African whites led by a few former British officers.
