What's the advantage to using chilled water as a cooling medium, as opposed to say using regrigerant to remove heat from the space and getting the same result?

its a shame the two water systems are so segregated energy wise. with the simple (not so simple) addition of a reversing valve the heatpump could also heat the building. there may very well be enough space on the roof for some commercial solar pool heater next to the tower.

Can somebody help me understand the purpose of the condensed water system? Why is water sent to the cooling tower and back down?

So what exactly happens to the chiller itself when the water cooling tower stops working? Does everything shut down automatically or does the chiller trip out on high head pressure?
