Unfortunately for Shinjuku station (and others), since competing lines share the same station, you have to exit the station and re enter to switch lines

Mmhh For having studied it, your video is not 100% accurate. Tokyo transport is Amazing because private railways companies built it along with housing, terminal stations and neighbourhoods starting BEFORE WWII, from the 1920s even, when the cars were not a competition (they didn’t exist!). And once a great system is built, it stays! The same goes for the NYC subway, london underground and Paris metro. Tokyo metro however was built later indeed but it only replaced already existing trams. It’s true that japan tried to to make the car as least desirable as possible.

It would take an impractical amount of money paid to me to live in a city. Buildings are ugly, relience on public transportation (no matter how good, or traffic) high living costs, to be somewhere I do not want to be, etc.
I know not everyone feels this way. I'd much rather be able to be independent, drive where I want, when I want, without having to be crowded in to a public bus or train. There aren't any upsides for me to live in a crowded city. There isn't any draw worth giving up how I live now. To each ze/zeir own.

Biking in Tokyo is easy and very safe. I rented a bike when I was there and biked all around Tokyo with no difficulties and no trouble at all. The subway is fine too, but the stations are so big that as a tourist you're easily disoriented and will spend a lot of time just looking for the right exit.

Actually the low car ownership rate in Japan is due to its low average salary that hasn't gone up at all for the past 30 years despite the soaring prices of goods and services. Even the lowest grade Toyota Prius costs over $20,000 nowadays, which the majority of the households in Tokyo certainly cannot afford.

Oil = Cars = Eagle, Nuclear = Trains = Ant. No way America will ever adopt Trains because its success demands a culture of conformity, and basic needs sacrifice. Ask the Japanese on how they heat their houses, kerosene and blankets. Japan also has a fraction of the weather events, difficult terrain, highly dispersed population, and 300s years of underground infrastructure. Most of all, America will not build more nuclear power and risk a geographical disaster. Many other reasons will hamper the expansion of trains. If safe Fusion Power gets developed, you will see trains everywhere in the US.

Transit in Japan isn't really as stressful because of environmental factors. The trains are well maintained, cleaned, the passengers are generally quiet (talking on the cell is a 'no-no', at least it used to be), and people don't eat onboard (save for kids and just drinks). Whereas in North America, there are a-holes who treats the trains like a toilet, who litters, act like animals, and make the entire experience very unpleasant.

car owner ship in Tokyo is also low because of regulation. You need to own a parking space before you can own a car. Like a driveway or a rented spot on a commercial parking lot. Also many districts just don't have public on street parking in Tokyo. Those things have incentivized the low number of car ownership. Great public transport wouldn't do that alone. Just look at European cities with good public transport there are still way too many cars in those cities.

Tokyo - Edo is basically artificially designed to be a mega city. It kept on building since 15th century from scratch. Kanto Plain has a great advantage in terms of expansion. People started off building channels for the sake of flood control and transportation. It has also experienced many major destructive events such as Great fire of Meireki, Great Kanto earth quake, and WW2. Every time it is half demolished, it kept on adding modern infrastructures.

No. This video is 50% correct not on the facts and stats. But the japanese as an experiment build a small scale maze with the major hubs as the goal and then introduce a mycellium fungi that remapped and reconfigurated their entire subway and public transportation system to the most efficient ways to those hubs. Yes they are better and planned it more comprehensively than us in america.

Tokyo was almost sea until Ieyasu Tokugawa came. So Ieyasu made Tokyo land to gather people. Tokugawa family had ruled Japan for 265 years from Tokyo.
After Tokugawa gave up Tokyo, The emperor came Tokyo from Kyoto, and he has ruled Japan from Tokyo.
