In this moment, unfortunely, racism increase in France. The fact is that traditional republicans politiciens became allied with facists (extrême droite). So, in the street , at work, at school, racists act as racist and our government do nothing. Why ? Because they can't keep the power without racists voices at the elections.
More than 20years that situation exist...

Racists are 20%, in France and antifascist 20% also. So, these egality give a big power for the opportunist politiciens. Dramatically, they prefer the racists.
That's a big politiciens problem that's destroy, day by day, our country and our mind : liberté, égalité, fraternité.
From France :p

1. You’re stunning.

2. I don’t live there, but I’ve been there twice on extended trips. I was treated very well and everyone I spoke to was very kind. A lady in Galeries Lafayette gave me the best compliment. I was checking out at the counter and she started speaking to me in French. I asked, in French, if she spoke English. She giggled and switched to English, and said that she thought I was French because I didn’t dress like a tourist. She said the tourists don’t dress as well as French ladies, and she liked my coat. I have never felt so chic🤣

administrative procedures in France... quite a tragic epic lol. but if it can reassure you even the French often miss one or two steps lol and so we go back and forth to the town hall lol. I wouldn't talk about racism because being white, I'm not faced with this problem and therefore I can't really understand it. mais si tu es encore en france je te souhaite de pouvoir en profité et si tu es deja partie j'espere que tu garde quand meme un bon souvenir de mon pays .

The US is crowded as well if you’re staying in a big city like Atlanta or New York or Los Angeles and the housing unit is going to be small and you’re still gonna spend a fortune. It’s expensive here too…we have more jobs though.

It's interesting how they would have believe you are inferior, only because they don't know their history. The pyramids are in Africa, and so is the Phoenix, which bears African features, among the statues, and paintings. The moors dominated parts of Europe for centuries, and civilized it. The richest man to ever live was Mansa Musa, worth 400 billion guess where he was from...

I've read another comment from another african american living in France, his take was very interesting imo;
Basically he was saying that racism in USA was systemic, as ingrained into the country's law (Jim Crow ...) while in France it is illegal and has been for centuries (as in punishable by law).
Therefore racism in France is found more frequently at the individual level the way delinquency is, whereas in USA it's found at the level of global community (KKK) and the level of the States as well as in court - remnants of racist laws are still enforced as of now, or are being reinstated. That's a very deeply rooted thinking process turned into a way of life.

But in recent decades, the whole western civilisation has been dealing with terrorism and the backlash of racism directed towards the muslim and arab communities.
As well as a very negative views pertaining to illegal immigration.
But it's an entirely different debate and the "racists" embracing that hostility are not the same populations than the old scholl racists we had before, as many second or third generation immigrants have also become hostile to the newer immigration waves as well, even towards the new people coming from the same countries than them.

What is true is that to feel comfortable in Paris, to live there, and not feel overwhelmed by the crowds, the noise, etc., you have to be a Parisian, ie born there, raided there and live there.
Most French who come to live in Paris, also have a tough time adapting too, and go back to other places after their initial years in paris.
As far as administration is concerned, I believe it is exactly the same handling US immigration office for instance, except Americans never experience that side of the US administration.

The problem w black and arabs, they take things for granted. Just be polite and behave yourself properly racism dissappears like a magic. Im color too but so pissed off of the division and the victimhood card you create in the french society

We Haitians do use the "tu" form more than the French but much less than the Africans, the Canadians or the Louisianais. ln francophone countries you are always on the safe side when you use the "vous" (you) form. When you are in doubt always use the "vous". ln other languages like German, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, ltalian, there is the tu and the vous system. ln Germany, you will have a heavy fine if you say "tu" (du) to a policeman. The King of Spain in informal conversations says "tu" to his Ministers. In the English language, the "tu" does exist, it is the "thou". lt fell largely into disuse and the polite form "you" was generalized, simplifying the things once and for all. William Shakespeare uses the "thou" in his plays.

I am from the Caribbean, Trinidad with ancestors from all the former French colonies in the Caribbean, so my ancestors are from West Africa, France and Britain. I have never been to West Africa and I only care to visit Ghana tbh, but I love Scotland and France a lot. England, not so much, but I call France the other mother land, because I felt very at home there even more than Scotland...
