I can actually see the fluid dynamics of this in my head.
if the gap between the aluminum sabot and the core were just a tiny bit bigger, a slightly rounded or dimpled back end on the core piece. maybe a bit longer taper on the front with a harder material.
I wouldn't change a thing with the aluminum sabot.
As this round leaves the barrel, much of the air is channeled into the sleeve space between the sabot and the core, as soon as it hits something, that also gets channeled in, compressing the air further, which then pushes the core out from the back, much like popping a bearing by pushing bread in behind it.
It worked beautifully with the lead, which flowed in like water at those speeds, less so with the aluminum, which is much harder.

That last test was not fair. The plate is always going to blow right off the table with nothing to hold it. If you want a real test,sturdy that sob up and get some lexan to shoot through if your scared of stuff coming back. Half inch Lexan with a whole just big enough for the shot gun to fit through and really test these things!!!!!!!
