ОтветитьI'm no scientist, just a really old person who has not yet perished in a fire. Notes on fire extinguishers: some are filled with water, some with powder - here in the UK the tanks are colour coded. And we also have fire blankets. All of this is said to tip others off that fire precautions and containment options have more nuance than you suggest.

ОтветитьSpraying water on a burning liquid is a really good way to spread the fire. In addition, blowing on a large fire is not enough to put it out. You can’t produce enough CO2 to completely smother the flames and when you exhale there’s still a large amount of oxygen left that can go on to fuel the fire. If you’re going to explain what safety precautions you’re taking at least take proper precautions. You aren’t just endangering yourself, but also other people who may try to replicate this. That being said the risk of your table burning is extremely low as bulk pieces of wood have to get quite hot to sustain combustion. If you spilled some of the methanol/trimethylborate you could just cover it with a plastic container and it would easily die out.
