The argument about previous waves of immigration fall flat in the face of modern context. Back then, the US population was growing as it always has, but we had plenty of room to expand, opportunities for jobs and starting businesses, etc. Today we have a large welfare system, no housing inventory, a rapidly shrinking middle class, outrageous inflation, and over $30 trillion in national debt. WE CANNOT AFFORD THIS.

I have sympathy for people wanting to improve their lives (the vast majority are economic migrants, not true asylum seekers), and America takes more immigrants than any other country in the world, but right now we can't even take care of Americans. There is no American dream. That whole idea is DEAD for 99% of us.

If you're a low-wage earner or blue-collar worker, you're competition has arrived. Good luck finding a job, or one that pays worth a damn.
