This got me real good. A city boy from Burlington/Hamilton has now discovered his love for being in the wild and appreciating the vast beauty of Northern Ontario lakes and will not stop exploring.

Physical adventures like canoeing, camping in the woods and hiking make us stronger physically and mentally. They give us strength to carry on in this crazy world that is so disconnected from real life. They ground us and remind us we can rely on ourselves. Personally, I love getting into the wild because for that short time, I am the only one on Earth. Nothing else matters. It allows the connection to Earth to open easily.

When I begin a canoe trip with novices I tell them the paddle stroke you will take at the end of the trip is not the stroke you took at the beginning. The end stroke will be smoother, more efficient, and more natural. Ease, efficiency, and natural, things to strive for that canoeing seldom disappoints..

I am 67 years of age and a canoehead. I own a 17' Grumman that I just abuse the heck out of because the Grumman likes it. I've built 3 cedar strip canoes, one for each daughter. And I've carved probably 2 dozen paddles. Every member of the family, from the oldest to the very youngest, grandchildren included, has their own paddle. I've put hundreds of miles under the keel, enjoyed most of them, and can't wait to get back out there. What do I like most? Let's turn that around. What's not to like?

You guys have inspired me and my husband to restore our old fiberglass canoe and start living our life again exploring and paddling like we used to do many years ago. Life with a canoe will always bring out the best in what we strive to do. Paddle on

I think I got in my first anode when I was 10 or maybe 11years old. I was by myself, in the canoe. That was about 56 years ago. I now own several canoes and have YMCA Camp Ocoee in Tennessee and Camp Widji in Minnesota for adding instruction and guidance on my journey through my canoeing history. Many trips to the canoe country of northern Minnesota and southern Ontario later, I like you, can't wait for the next adventure. So, Get Out There and Keep on Camping.

Didn’t step in a canoe until I was 46 after arriving in Canada. Loved it all from day 1. The people I travelled with, the scenery, the peace and quiet, the rivers and lakes I would not have seen all over Ontario and the NWT. Being out there!

Amen Alex. It is truly something that that is deeply spiritual and satisfying. Most would not understand if they have never gone on one. But the connection with nature you feel, is truly magical and something that all should experience at least once.

Amongst my late Mom's pictures was one of my brother & I in my uncle's Chestnut Prospector, we were toddlers. Canoeing has been part of my way of life since then. Asking me why I canoe is like asking a mountaineer why they climb...short answer If you need to have it explained to you, you will more than likely not understand the answer. You guys do great work keep it up

Great video ! Perfect timing, we just returned from nine days, eight nights in the Adirondacks,on a wonderful canoe trip, crazy weather, exploring, great camps and food, heavy water conditions with super windy conditions. But at the end of the day, setting up a nice camp, cooking some tasty food and reminiscing about the days adventure with a nice campfire. What more do you need ? Thanks !

I love how everything I do when im on a canoe trip falls easily into two categories, play or work to get to the next campsite / meal. Also I love going to bed at night truly tired and not because I have to wake up in the morning.

What I love about canoe trips is that while they can feel like a passive activity, they force you to be deliberate about what you're doing. It requires a meticulous attention to details of the world in front of you, while allowing you to block out parts of the world that aren't in front of you.

Thanks for a thoughtful & meaningful video. I turned 80 this summer & still have more waters to paddle. The smooth but surging motion, the repetitive muscle action, the serenity, the communion with nature & so much more. Since I was given a toy canoe in the 1940's I have been in love with canoes & the life. Sorry for carrying on but you hit a button. Stay Safe & thanks Brian 80

Hey, Alex...Happy to see your latest clip...canoeing is the best and you are right when you said you feel connected to the land and water - no matter what mom nature throws at you. Just when you think you can't handle another moment of bugs, wind, rain, horrible portages, faulty equipment , etc - your trip is finished with a sunset, a rainbow, quiet water or even a trophy fish. What ever it was - you have persevered, overcome and adapted with a range of emotions and experience that leaves me feel exhilarated, content, happy and thankful I was able to live in the moment with nature one on one. Nothing better. Nothing.

Thanks Alex for the great videos. I am 63 and started paddling the year after I graduated high school and I do presentations at Nature centers, schools assisted living facilities and I also get asked that and it is a tough question to answer. I usually tell them the adventure, beauty, solitude and not many people can handle it or don't understand but sometimes you have to work hard for the view. keep up the great videos.

Our family acquired a canoe this summer. We love exploring our local lake and the many small island in it. Our children (ages 6, 10 and 12) are begging for an over night stay on one of the island. They want to relax, explore and depend on each other. That is what canoe is for us. We are learning to depend on each others skills (we are all part of Girl Guides and Scouts) and strengthen our family.

I found your channel early this year and was glued to your Labrador trip series. I love everything you guys are doing. It's real and from the heart. It's been over ten years since I've done a canoe trip, but thanks to your inspiration my son and I are planning one for next year right now. Algonquin Park if the Canadians will let us Americans back in, or if not, the Adirondacks. My favorite part of a canoe trip is camp. You can bring a little more stuff compared to backpacking to make camp fun!

Great video. Something about canoe tripping videos and emotional piano music gives me all the good feels. I also love the places I'd never have gone to or see if not for wanting to paddle there. As an angler, canoe trips also help bring me to the places that see far less pressure, and make the fishing so much more enjoyable. Going up to the French River this weekend for my first time, gonna run some rapids with my brother and 2 close friends 🤙🤙 thanks for getting me EVEN MORE pumped.
