This is where I came into the series. Seeing that box cover on the shelf absolutely hooked me.
ОтветитьAmazing piece of video!! I played it around 1986, learnt english with. I found Ambrosia but never managed to pass the Exodus snake. I was affraid of dungeons after bad encounters with dragons. What strikes me now is how abstract the graphics were.
ОтветитьI've watched no less than 3 of these, the first being Spoony way back in my 20's. You damn right I'm finna watch you too.
You made Yiik entertaining.. Fuckin Yiik.
Man...not since Spoony have I had a good time watching an Ultima Retrospective. At this point you should try and get him to cameo as chuckles or something. Or ya know Lord British himself. I bet he'd be tickled to know people still talk about his life, his work, and of course his lifes work
ОтветитьYour series has gotten me to finally play Ultima 4 which I've had on GOG for free for like literally over a decade and after a while bumbling around I have fallen in love with it. Have avoided watching the actual U4 video until I finish it myself and will try to finish 5, 6 and 7 before you get to them on the series.
ОтветитьThat tease for the NES port has me drooling
ОтветитьDamn, bro, havent heard Headstrong track in like 15 years
ОтветитьThanks! Really been enjoying the series!
ОтветитьA fellow Devin Townsend fan uh?
ОтветитьI watched Spoony's Ultima retrospective and I really am glad I found out about your videos. There is so much more information on here I didn't know before. I know it will be awhile but going by Spoony's videos I can't wait to see your video on Ultima 9. Haha
ОтветитьThat musical score for my old Atari 400 copy of Exodus gave me soooo much joy.
Also: if you buy more than 9999 food for a character, the counter rolls over to 0 and the second letter of their name turns to a lower-case ‘y’ (and if their name has more than 5 letters, it appends an additional such ‘y’ to the end of their name). So it’s like a 10,000 gp badge you can buy for your characters.
enjoying your Ultima retrospective — but wait - did you kill Lord British in your playthrough? As a kid that was a big deal for this game - you take his ship hidden inside the castle then can shoot at him at the entrance in the moat.
ОтветитьI just wanted to say that i love your videos. I watched the 3do video like 7 times because i like to turn it on and listen to it while i sleep. Your videos have a comfy vibe.
ОтветитьYou know when something is good when the conservative Christians hate on it
ОтветитьThat's not fair. One of your party members is omniscient!
ОтветитьI played the NES version of this game quite a lot. Don’t think I ever beat it but had fun.
ОтветитьHOLD UP. Chuckles the F&%king Jester was based on one of the developers?!
Man, wonder how he feels knowing how many people have gone out of their way to kill that character.
Good retrospective, Maj!
I know I'm late to the party but looking at one of the party members. I'm taking a shot in the dark here and guess you're a Devin Townsend fan?
ОтветитьSpoony has the best retrospective on the Ultima series as a whole.
ОтветитьExodus doesn't look anything like Jerry Falwell- he's the real Prince of Darkness
ОтветитьAt least he didn’t use maritime phrases like leeward wind so it could be worse for us land lubbers. I admire the fact that he tried to make the ship behave like a ship. Some modern games fail badly with that aspect such as skull and bones
ОтветитьI had a zx spectrum. Insanely popular and cheap option in the uk with a crappy rubber keyboard that was a nightmare to type on. I then got a Amiga when it came out. An amazingly advanced 16bit computer at the time
ОтветитьDid you get Ziltoid his coffee? :P
ОтветитьZiltoid! The Omniscient!
ОтветитьThis series is incredible! Ive heard about ultima many times in my run as a consumer of deep dives into various facets of video games and their histories (if I hear "the first Dragon Quest was meant to be a simplified console based version of American computer RPGs like Wizardry and Ultima" again...) so it's amazing to know all these details about the backstory of these landmark works!
ОтветитьThe RuneScape music 🤌🏼💋
ОтветитьI loved my Mockingboard on my Apple ][e and the Ultima games.
ОтветитьThese RPG history lessons have been super cool! Definitely the most informative vidgam review i've ever seen at least.
The game Moon Ring that came out recently is an Ultima like game from one of the directors of the Fable games, if you want to see a modern take on the Ultima style!
I like watching video essays on games I've never played mainly because when it's a game I love it is hard to separate my opinion from the essay. But hearing these stories and learning all I can is very cool.
ОтветитьThe unexpected Ziltoid on a quest for the ultimate coffee out in the wild, there's a pleasant surprise 😂
ОтветитьThat's why you don't hand out "of all time" titles willy-nilly. Because there may very well come the day 40 years into the future when Baldur's Gate 3 releases. BG3 ultimately overshadowed Ultima 3 in terms of quality imho.
ОтветитьMy best friend and I both got copies of Ultima: Exodus for the NES around the same time in the early 90s. That game was ridiculously hard to complete. You had to either discover all the obscure secret stuff yourself, or be lucky enough to find a magazine with a guide in it. We played that game for months, sharing our latest discoveries and strategies every day at school, until he finally found a guide book somewhere and we were able to beat it. I both loved and hated that game, for being so in-depth and full of mysteries to uncover, but also for being riddled with bugs and just way too hard without a guide.
"Brigands appears!"
I love this so much. I will watch well done 1 hour long documentaries on my niche stuff every day of the week.
ОтветитьWelp, knowing the state of the world right now I'd say the moral majority wasn't wrong despite their claims being religion based tho.
Culture has been subverted and decadence runs amok.
Wouldn't blame directly lord British I might add. 😂
lol, i had the cga pc version and I think my poor dad went insane from that spell cast sound
ОтветитьDevin Townsend annnd Garth Marenghi references! No wonder your channel was suggested to me! 😂
ОтветитьOH MY GOD!!!! Exodus Ultima III. I shudder to think about the amount of hours my friends and I spent playing this on my c64. It was so much fun! However, after a while it started to suck. We could never find that damn MARK OF THE SNAKE! We had all the other ones and we thought maybe that one was hidden in a different way or something. Never did finish that damn game!😂😢😂😅😊
ОтветитьIn my personal opinion, the PC port's graphics were OK if played through a true CGA card with a composite monitor (which is what the game was designed around at the time.) It made the graphics comperable to the Apple II port (same blury lettering at times as well.)
ОтветитьTurns out the moral majority were right. They were just 40 years too early.
ОтветитьI actually finished this game when it came out. My keystroke count was over 3,000,000.
Ответитьlove the channel, but ultima is stale.
ОтветитьYou are honestly the best bet we as a community have of getting a proper Ultima Underworld Retrospective.
Thanks for giving this series love
When are you doing Tales of Vesperia?
ОтветитьI hear you breathing into your chest for your Person's of Lordly Calibur shotout. Sit up straight and breathe into your back, it'll give you more lung capacity.
ОтветитьMockingboard is the best name for a soundcard I’ve ever heard! LoL
Ответить
