What is Verbosity and why is it important to run -vv?

Hi there, everything works well for me until the practical section, I try to ping the ip and it allows me to which is weird and it also doesn't show 999 open | filtered ports it shows 995 when I run the nmap scan, am I doing something wrong or is the room crap

the first 999 ports is 0-998, not 0-999, that's the first 1,000
Also, first 5,000 is 0-4999
If you are going to walk us through, please do a full walkthrough. It does no one any good to just guess answers without understanding how we got the answers.

How did you find the target machine IP address (I have not watched the whole video just came for the practical if you can point me to particular timestamp or answer here that would be very helpful :) )

Just wanted to point out they were asking for the first 999 ports, so it goes from 0-998, not 999. If you did that you'd see 999 open|filtered ports on the Not Shown line.

I inputed the same command in the end "sudo nmap -vv -sS -p 0-5000 [ip adress]" but somehow I did not get 5 but just one respond via tcp.. is this normal? I mean there could be only one ports open but that would destroy the possibility of completing the room..

Hey man, thanks for actually showing how to find this stuff for ourselves in the terminal. It's nice to get extra bits of information to add to the toolbox. I came here just for help finding one answer I was having trouble with but ended up watching the whole video. I would go ahead and do parts and then see how you approached it as well for extra knowledge. Really helpful.

When i pinged the target using -sn and /24, I had 4 that were up. Are they the gateway and the broadcast address etc? Thanks, great video
