As mentioned in the video, West Virginia was allowed to have slaves at the start. If not mistaken, Lincoln wanted Virginia to split because he wanted the USA to have the Baltimore and Ohio railroad for the Civil War and of course more representatives for the USA.

It's because the western one sucks.

Having been born and raised in WV. My ancestors were quite literally the first English ( German from PA, NY), (English/Scotch/Welsh from colonial VA) to settle Western Virginia.
First Greenbrier then Great Kanawha areas of modern WV.

My German settler ancestors, not to be outdone.
After having their children kidnapped by Native Americans, tracked them for weeks several hundred miles through hostile terrain until finding their village in modern day Ohio.
Rescued their daughters/sisters and fled back to Monongah river area of Virginia with hundreds of warrior Braves in pursuit, eventually who decided the reward was not worth the effort or lives and let them return home.

You showed the colony of Virginia asthma present states of Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky this isn't quite correct. The Southern part of Ohio and Indiana were included in that Colony until Congress started to establish the boundaries of the states.

West Virginia was allowed to join the US to insure Lincoln won the 1864 election.

I LOVE West Virginia because of the mountains - some of the best skiing in the east can be found at Snowshoe Resort and the views from the mountain ridges are incomparable. The small towns are a throwback, with lovely quaint main streets, and the larger towns have everything you might need. I’d move there in a minute if I could!

I found it interesting that you didn't mention the role played by the rivers. The primary rivers flow north into the Ohio, which naturally led to strong commercial and economic ties between the western counties of Virginia and the new state of Ohio. To this day, WV is closely tied to the Buckeye State, much more than to the Old Dominion. And it's due to geography!
