He's emphasizing spin but the more spin you apply the less you go through the ball and the more the power drops off. For physically strong players it's not a problem but many club players can only achieve speed by hitting the ball flatter wtih little topspin. Many elite players have a flattish DH backhand compared with the forehand.

This video is all amazing, but the best part is: I'm gonna hit the ball at 50% and take more risk than hitting at 100%!

Michaela is hitting incredibly well. Not to take anything from her but she could rotate her torso more on the forehand. As it is right now, she's putting a lot of emphasis on her right arm when hitting a forehand.

When he works with her on spin, he doesn't talk about the angle of attack of the racket. I wish he would talk more about the angle of the racket face.

But how to combine this whip movement and brushing the ball with stability in hitting by sweet spot of the racket and avoiding shanking?

I've been playing since I was 15 yrs old. I consider myself a advance amateur. What you're teaching on these videos are usually something you have to pay for. This video is extremely informative. THANK YOU!!!!

Great advice for a beginner like me. I never thought playing high spin down the line to "buy" some time to move to the middle. I'm always trying to rip the ball (more on the flat side) down the line ending up in stress if the opponent hits a backhand cross. I will definitely put a high spin in practice. Thank you, Patrick! Greetings from Zagreb Croatia.

This is where we are at with the modern poly-stringed power game, and no one teaches it better than Patrick. I still think that timing is harder with poly strings and all that spin, and an easier game with gut strings. My targets are only a couple of feet over the net, but I hit them every time when I get the footwork right, whereas these max spin players miss much more often, and sure the spin saves tham, but in the end does all that spin help them hit more effective shots? Gut gives you power with more feel and consistency, is that not true? And the proliferation of wrist injuries at the top levels must have something to do with these extreme wristy extreme-spin strokes, no?
