What if they were trying to make a round earth map but its actually flat
ОтветитьWhy didn’t they just use GPS? Dumb
ОтветитьGreat doc
ОтветитьThe ancient view of a map was not scalability! Amazing the British navy may have known more about our universe than having mapped the world?
ОтветитьWhat about the Peiri Reise maps and the older maps he claimed to have copied? How did he accurately draw Antarctica...Antarctica without ice?
ОтветитьThis is meaningful and profound. A similar book I read deeply affected my life for the better. "Temporal Echoes: Amelia's Odyssey Through Ancestral Shadows" by Vivian Rosewood
ОтветитьVery poorly researched.
ОтветитьDo not believe half of what you 'learned' of official history! ("history is written by the conquerors", eh?). Perhaps the Americas, Australia, Africa etc. were 'discovered' by Asians or Africans or Polynesians for all we know! The North Pole may have been visited by the Inuit. The Piri Reis map of Antarctica, not accurate, may have been Seen by early explorers only as islands from the coast. There were likely Europeans to the Americas even before the Vikings. The best marine navigators were probably the Polynesians. How about the Arab traveler Ibn Battuta? Columbus(Cristof Colomb) was a murdering conquistador! As were the Spanish (& Portuguese) explorers. He thought he'd reached the East Indies, so our First Nations are mis-labelled as 'Indians'. Magellan was an arrogant fool, got executed in the Philippines, ha. Mariners had ocean navigation instruments ie lodestone compasses & astrolabes etc for centuries. Maps were secret documents for the most part. There's evidence that Asians & Africans may have 'discovered' the Americas before arrogant Europeans. Our First Nations were here for ages!! **Space aliens visiting Earth? Get Real, for pete's sake! The ancient great manmade structures were built by Man. I could go on... * There was a fine series on TV about 25 yrs. ago called "The Shape of the World"(narrated by Patrick Stewart). **The alleged first SOLO circumnavigation of the world(alone) was by Joshua Slocum from Nova Scotia, last century. Thank you.
ОтветитьThis was an excellent doc loved it!!!
ОтветитьI wonder to what extent Arab and Chinese maps may have played a role, especially around the time Europeans seized Cordoba and Granada?
ОтветитьHenry the Navigator was a prince of Portugal, not the King. He was a son of King Joao and Queen Philipa, the daughter of John of Gaunt of England and niece of the Black Prince.
ОтветитьAd breaks literally every 5 gd minutes
ОтветитьHenry travelled as far as Morocco Or Ceuta.
ОтветитьThe land where the sun never sets must be the poles.
ОтветитьBar inside a 🌎 is the best map ever.
ОтветитьTHNKXZ Sincerely y'all for finding me once again 😂 ❤ ♾️🙏♾️🙏❤ you've helped me getting through another Sunday Morning coming down , I Love staying alive through History lessons, plus your Truth, put back into the Truth of all our History.❤
Ответитьbtw guido my dear. are u thw father of one of my tois? just asking. give me a sign. ja?!
ОтветитьA brief history of WESTERN? chartograpgy maybe?
ОтветитьHenry 'Infante de Sagres' or 'the Navigator' was the son of John I of Portugal and never became King. In this video he is called King more than once... which is incorrect to say the least
ОтветитьWell, it is far safer to practice on the serfs or the villains. They don't fight back.😊😊
ОтветитьHenry the Navigator was never king. He was one of the brothers of king Duarte. This is embarrassing
ОтветитьEuropeans discovered Nowhere!!! Everywhere they went people were already there!!! Or are you implying only Europeans are human beings? The question is why did it take the Europeans so long to go anywhere? The Europeans are actually the last of mankind to travel the world!!!! Everywhere they went men and women were already there!!!
Ответить..Imagine if the native americans and Vikings werent murdered by the Church of England en mass, amd encouraged to wipe out their own religion and history in favor of a whitewashed version of it. We would know how exactly the vikings did trade with the native americans, africa and asia. We would see how vikings spoke and conversed and even went to war in Brazil... we would know so much more if christianity hadnt wiped out their past. :(
ОтветитьI think war lords are more concerned with with their local area. Dictators and Kings (and Presidents ) are concerned with their country but Emperors and those who struggle to rule as an Emperor, if they reveal it or not
ОтветитьWho keeps drinking my coffee?
ОтветитьWow, the guy was head of the lab that made the virus. He profited from the virus. He should be in prison, not Public Broadcast Services demigod. Have we cut all funding to this Reich Ministry of Enlightenment and Propaganda yet?
ОтветитьMaps show the growing knowledge of people in an interesting way. Thanks.
ОтветитьHorrible way of telling history
ОтветитьSuprised that maps from the muslim and persian world are left out of this documentary. They had interesting maps in medieval times that were very similar to modern metro maps. Cities and other important points were marked by colored circles, connected by lines, that showed the travel time between them. Simple, convenient, easy to carry.
Not much info in this documentary about the history of the science and techniques of mapmaking, specific significant maps, etc., just repeating info about european explorers that we all already know. Lazy and incomplete documentary.
I am pretty sure there are planes.
ОтветитьThis is in a time where mostly all would have translated country maps in English and put on a jigsaw puzzle
ОтветитьI think they were guided by when the word was recorded and heard and rediscovered.
ОтветитьIt's the different rom, CD-ROM rise of the computer age. And baby boomers.
ОтветитьIn the same way as interesting not take out the Circumnavigation of the Planet 🌍 of Elcano and Magallaes .
About the Conquerors Empires are interesting to not focuse only about Portuguese and Castiglians To bad consequences, of course in balance, also we need coment the competition with wars, pirates, slaves also of hsnds to Ducht, French and English empires included de aniquilation of 5 M of Naturals habitants of NorthAmerica; USA and Canada actually, and with“ Negroes Traffic( 14 M aprox) slaves by the Crow of 🇬🇧 UK and later 2 M confined now 2023 in
Indian reservations (concentration camps without walls), and not forbidrn also Australiaw whio English Empire send all criminals, killers as a great jail with bad times to sXX for Natural inhabitants, Is good try explain but is important not take out or interpretation maybe not correct the information who is out or is not interesting comment, In the XXI century Colonialismus also modern is into the BRICS nations and Few governments demand public sorry for the bad decisions in the past, Thank your for your video 👌,
same as HUNTER X HUNTER dark continent😊
ОтветитьThis "Brief History of Cartography" is three half-hour shows presented as one 84-minute program. I give this a single star (out of five) because I am scientifically-oriented and this program has approximately zero information about how maps are made. Maps are discussed and history is presented, but actual map-making (cartography) is pretty much missing. ☹
ОтветитьThey had discovered JEW S A.
ОтветитьYep, lots of explorers made it home to tell of their journey. Imagine how many didn't.
ОтветитьGreat documentary. I especially enjoy the music being too dramatic and scary when it’s not even suitable to the footage on screen lol
Ответить“He (Colombus) didn’t know he had discovered new lands.” That’s because he didn’t actually discover them. The Vikings discovered the new continent almost half a millennia before Colombus’ supposed “discovery “. Amazing how history is still being falsified today!
ОтветитьI have a framed replica of an old one ("ORBIS TERRARUM NOVA ET ACCURATISSIMA TABULA", by Nicolao Visscher) in my living room. It is beautiful...being a long time aircraft pilot (as a profession) and a sailor (as a sport / hobby), charts & maps have always fascinated me...great documentary!!! 👏👏👏
ОтветитьHenry the Navigator was never a king, but a prince... he was one of the youngest sons of João I (John the first). He was the Duke of Viseu and grand master of the military order of Christ. During his life three different kings reigned in Portugal: D. João I (John the first), his father; D. Duarte (king Edward), his older brother; and Afonso V, his nephew.
ОтветитьThanks! That was a nice review. Somehow it would seem like burning the libraries at Alexandria and other seats of learning retarded our understanding of cartography quite a bit! I wish it were not for dominance and riches that the world got discovered by European civilization. Navigating by compass is not as easy as it looks, but it will get you there with a decent map.
Ответитьthose guys are wicked German wow
ОтветитьSo you don t know how they mapped the planet ...as it all remains un mystery....thanks for sharing your ignorance...
ОтветитьDoes anyone know who composed the soundtrack music for this documentary?
ОтветитьEarth is Flat .
