Let's not forget, for one moment, how good the Bf 109 actually was. It had it's flaws and it was tight and it was overwhelmed by the Spitfires, Hurricanes and Mustangs, sure. But the design was sound and good. Probably the best offspring of the 109 was the Hispano HA-1112 Buchon, mainly because it combined the 109 with the Merlin engine. A match made in heaven and hell, really.

In 1968, David Ben-Gurion said: “Czechoslovak arms saved the State of Israel, really and absolutely. Without these weapons, we wouldn’t have survived.”

In total, Czechoslovakia delivered 61 Spitfire Mk. IXEs and 24 Avia S-199s, 34.500 guns, 5500 machineguns , 900 heavy machine guns, 500 handguns and tens of millions of ammo before Oct 1948.
About 80 pilots and 70 ground crews were trained (or retrained to handle Spits/S-199) in CZ. Also ~200 paratroopers and about 1.300 military personnel were trained. Many of Czechoslovak pilots/ground crews involved were also RAF veterans, so the cooperation was pretty good by all accounts.

In February 1948, Czechoslovakia became a Communist country. Stalin supported the State of Israel at first, but when its pro-Soviet parties lost election , he withdrew his support – and so did Czechoslovakia. in 1950s, newly Communist Czechoslovakia was providing license built MiG-15s to Egyptians to fight the IAF. Things moved fast in geopolitics those days....

Very interesting. Did you also hear about the fake film set that was set up in the UK that required the use of a few war-surplus Beaufighters? Once they took off for an aerial "shoot" and disappeared over the horizon, they headed off to Israel.

actually MEZEK (Mule - in English translation) is originally in Czech language a slang word for a Stubborn person... In English it is said - stubborn as a Mule and in Czech it is said - stubborn as a mezek (slang - but Often used) I'm just saying it as an interesting fact :)

Another interesting aspect of this story is how they were delivered to Israel. Mostly by the help and assistance of Yugoslav communists. It was mostly product of mutual trust and respect of two officers, Dan Yeshayahu alias Shaike Dan and Edo Brajnik alias Friend, a young Yugoslav counter-intelligence officer, of course, with support of their respective governments. A story worthy of a Hollywood movie.

very interesting video, I was assembling plastic kit of this plane as a child and I have noticed later this strong similarity with BF109,
as well for me was strange that propeller with a big massive blades looked a bit strange, ugly, oversized, not sympatic :)
other way I liked this plane in silver metalic colour, it was in a similar category like other famous WW2 airplanes

Had the Israeli War of Independence gone longer, Isarelis could have simply smuggled another version version of Bf-109 the Spanish HA-1112 Bf-109, with F-51D Mustang Spitfire RR Merlin Engine.

I'm pretty sure Czechoslovakia didn't produce weapons for Nazi Germany. Nazi Germany occupied parts of Czechoslovakia in 1938, then in early 1939 pro-Nazi Slovak Republic split off, and the next day Germany invaded and occupied the remains of Czechoslovakia, establishing Protectorate of Bohemia and Slovakia. THEN, and only then, were formerly Czechoslovak factories forced to produce arms for the Third Reich.

It may sound nitpicky, but the way you said it sounds as if Czechoslovakia was already pro-Nazi before the occupation, which was decidedly not the case. Czechoslovakia was producing a lot of arms to defend against the impending invasion, but because of political decisions (not least the "Munich Betrayal") the arms were largely unused.

The S-199 wasn't called a knife.
- Firstly because the Gustav version Israël bought was far from being a knife.
- Secondly because the well deserved nickname Mezek already stuck means a mule in Czech.

Правительство Чехословакии ничего не решало точно также как и правительство Западной Германии. В Чехословакии командовал Сталин. Это он создал армию Израиля. Воевали советские ветераны еврейской этичности.

The most important thing when launching a regular 109: if it rears up on launch, immediately kick the right rudder to even out the torque! Now you can imagine what happens when you equip a 109G with a Jumo 211 engine designed to power a bomber! In addition, the much too narrow undercarriage! Then the 109 will finally become a killer queen!

Already first you words are WRONG. It was not the Czechoslovakian industry who during the WWII had manufactured arms and equipment for Germany. Czechoslovakia did not exist since 1938 when the English and French governments betrayed their ally Czechoslovakia, which was the only Central Europe democracy, giving it to Hitler who together with Poles occupied the country.
The result of this English/French treachery was the WWII which started almost exactly one year later.
Germans designed the Czechia part, the most industrialized region in the Europe, as the Bohemian and Moravian Protectorate. The other part of Czechoslovakia - the Slovakia's established a fascist regime and became Hitler's ally as a separate country.
So please study the history before you start spreading your b/s to the world!

SAVED ISRAEL ?
It killed more israeli pilots than the arabs !!!
It was a true nightmare, with the wrong engine, guns out of sincro and a series of flaws that made the plane very dangerous to fly.
