I think they were flat 4 air-cooled.A Japanese team entered 2 cars in Targa Tasmanian in the early 90s.
ОтветитьI watch a car brochure channel called Quarterlight you might be able to trade/swap some brochures with him.
ОтветитьHi Mark, nice little car from Toyota, never seen the Sports 800 before must be a rival of the Honda S800, like the dash lay out just like an Sunbeam Alpine. I bet it was a reliable car then, as they are today. my daily driver is a Toyota, but I doubt it will become a classic not like this car. Great video Take care
ОтветитьLooks like Toyota went metric before us the Speedo being in Km/h
ОтветитьI like them. It's a pity we never got them here, that I'm aware of. Are they kind of a predessesser to the Celica?
ОтветитьThink I'll hold out for a 2000GT😆
ОтветитьI don't really know what Toyotas are like these days , but one of the best cars Iv'e owned was a 1984 ish Corona 1900 cc I think it was, ( maybe 2 liter?) , manual gearbox, completely reliable , simple , points distributor, more than adequate power , comfortable. Had a couple of Cressida's as well , a 1979 and 1984 , I thought the '79 was the better one actually.Toyotas have definitely been a quality brand .
ОтветитьHi Mark, there were several of the little Toyota 700's getting around on the lower North Shore in Sydney when I was a kid, also a handful of these 800 coupes. Bill Buckle motors at Brookvale would special order odd-bod Toyotas for his customers, and Theiss's AMI group that built the early CKD kit Toyotas must have ordered complete cars when they were ordering the "flat-pak" CKD kits to build. Dad's brother-in-law did exactly that on two occasions Buckle's more than gladly obliged as Uncle John's sister had married one of the Buckles, plus at the time they were the biggest seller of Toyotas in Sydney in the 1960's and possibly this helped too, AND it was Buckles that ordered in the MERE 2 red Toyota 2000 coupes that were delivered in Australia which are now near million dollar cars. Uncle John told dad that they were there in the showrooms at Brookvale if I wanted to have a look at them. As a kid I was taller than my dad at age 10 and when I went to get in and sit in one of the 2000's the first thing that struck me was how small the cabin seating area was but it was very impressive in the quality rosewood dash and the instruments.
ОтветитьVery cool - elements of the equivalent Honda, a bit of Datsun and a bit of 2000GT. I wonder how many survive!
ОтветитьI never knew about this car before now. Only the 2000.When I was young my dad took me to all the car shows. In different countries. One time I actually heard him say 'don't give him any more brochures. he can barely carry the one's he already has'. I got that DS21 brochure anyway.
ОтветитьG'day Mark. Another awesome video! I've heard of the Toyota Sports 800, but I've never seen one. They must be as rare as hen's teeth. If they were offered here in the USA, it wasn't on the market for very long before being discontinued.
ОтветитьCheers Mark. Very stylish car. The silver with the red interior looks terrific. Especially for the early 60's, still looks great now.
Ответить“Google Translate “ app on your phone is handy to have so you can read the Japanese text.
ОтветитьMark Can you do the history of the Toyota corolla and 3kh engine note good idea to get automatic transmission option the automatic transmission out lasted the engine
ОтветитьI have owned the Toyota corolla keo had the windscreen wiper switches on the steering column and the head lights and high Beam and the Bonnett frout wase rouned the car seats are just like to sit on a English pebble beach
ОтветитьImagine trying to get parts.
ОтветитьWow, a lovely brochure but what a superb car! Looking at my Copen, a lot of Japanese Kei\small car themes were already in this car [oversized headlights, proportions, dash etc]. It's like the missing link from Midget design. Thanks Mark, good luck with the kit bashing.
ОтветитьLooks pretty cool! Toyota should bring it out again as a re-engineered retro styled EV!!! I reckon it'd do really well!
ОтветитьI seen one of these long time ago in Melbourne I first thought it was an Alfa Romeo because of the front on another note I am currently restoring an 69 Datsun coupe convertible it's like 3 quarters the size of an mg it to is the only one I've ever seen cool video mark these types of Japanese cars need to be seen more they are historicall
ОтветитьMark love the history lessons. I'm intrigued about this vehicles dimensions , height , weight etc , i know it's tiny, but how tiny.
