This is a incredibly simplistic review. Listen to now playing podcast. Thier analysis is much more in-depth and can be applied to lots of different movies.

We don't want to have Kirk as this naive guy who learns how to be the captain that we always want him to be. We want a movie with Kirk as Kirk. So the best thing about this movie which is Kirk's arc is kind of pointless and ridiculous.

The continuous action beats are just boring. And that really stands out today because that's all we're getting today.

And the relationship between Spock and Uhura was just dumb.

Kurt talking to Nimoy was obviously a stunt.

Blowing up Vulcan was ridiculous.

We have a movie about the invention of the blackberry and fucking Tetris so the snuggy movie isn’t ridiculous.

I'm not so sure that they wouldn't release a Star Trek The Motion Picture film again. The 'world works' on pendulum swings and that kind of 'boring' film will be popular again one day. Certainly better than the crap they're producing nowadays.

I independently arrived at the view that Star Trek : The Motion Picture was the best one.

Generations was actually a great Trek movie. It was clever and thoughtful and handed off the series wonderfully.

Ok, question to everyone, in general. How does this plot hit your ears, at first listen . . . A Star Trek movie set in the time period when Earth just started to be able to colonize space/ able to travel to deep space and return to Earth safely through to the period of time when Earth tries to champion the creation of the Federation.

I think the opportunity for intelligent storyline, political intrigue, betrayal, alliances, the list goes on and on. Im not what you would call a "Trekkie", but I always enjoyed the deliberate and smart storytelling, Old Trek satiated my hunger for this, even as a kid. Now, the movies throughout the years are hit and miss. That said, they weren't just fast paced action movies, using big boom booms and flashy cinematic to cover the fact there is a lack in character development, plot holes, and weak story.

I dunno, I'm flexible on the exact period in time. Still, something in and around this time could really force the writers to put more thought and forethought in to a Star Trek story.

Still find this to be one of Plinket's finest reviews. Dude is in his element.

Gene Roddenberry must have forgotten about I Spy (1965), Mission Impossible (1966), and probably others. Hollywood people have fuzzy memories, especially when it comes to virtue signalling (and it's only getting worse today).

This movie was agressively bland. Just the blandest most boring thing ever. Purely the safest way to reboot star trek yet again while fan pandering and offending nobody. JJ has made a career out of that actually, the boring fuck.

watching this review again, i mean it's pretty fucking good compared to nowadays, sure theirs's more action, dumber themes, whatever, if you want TNG type themes, watch TNG, this movies does enough, simple, some holes, but overall pretty good if you know what to expect. i cut my losses....seriously
