I really do agree with your choice of Santos. I do not like the modern Santos at all, just like you say, the proportions are off. Great selection and watch!

I very much love galbee version too for almost the same reasons u mentioned. But it definitely is too small. If they made some sort of anniversary version of the galbee in the modern santos medium size, id throw my 💵 at it. The square bezel is so much nicer. Also im sure cartier get people saying this all the time, if the bezel was brushed instead of polished, id once again throw my 💵 at them. They came out with the large with black coated and some other blue rubber thing but it was awful. Lol

Just can not get it right, too small, too big, too flat, too curvy, date wrong position, etc.

They both look great on you, but I can see why you moved to the older piece. The dial alone is reason enough.

I’m in a perpetual cycle of buyer and sellers remorse. Personally to me, Cartier is a feminine watch, no matter what reference. I prefer more masculine watches. Still struggling to find my one and done.

I love the large. It’s so thin it just fits great. One of my favorites.

See the problem is that you’re trying to compare well maybe that’s not the problem. Anyway I have a 70s captain Willard the real deal. They are not the same as the modern ones. The old ones are much better, built really solid

galbee is definatley better than a current Santos de cartier. You did just right move.

Not about the watch but about Santos himself self. He was not “just” a rich guy (as you said) that flew when every rich guy was flying… he was one, if not the greatest, aviation pioneers that ended up $uici!ng when he realized his inventions were being used as war fares. First flew his heavier than air in 1906 IN PUBLIC and not hidden in some hill hidden in somewhere… any way… We all learn something new every day right!? So here it is. The plural of Santos is Santos, exactly the same way. A Portuguese word that means Saints (already in plural) but it is a Name therefore the singular is SantoS with an S and that being the case Portuguese grammar says that a word that it’s singular end in S has no change in the plural. Therefore, SantosS and / or Santi are not plural of Santos.

I also recently sold my Santos. How weird is that I watch stalked it for a year. Then, I bought a Cartier Must despite having a YG Tank Solo. Maybe I just prefer the clean look of the minute-hour hands by the Tank design. I also wear my Orient Kamasu most of the time and the Rolex DJ 36 Mint Green.

The older santos models are so much better when it comes to the watch's propotions compared to the modern one. I think you made the right choice there 👌

I currently only own stainless steel watches with bracelets. The Santos Dumont would be a great addition

What's the reference of the one you settled on?

I have a Dumont it’s not that dressy and you can wear it with anything also I stay outdoors so it’s nice with a rubber strap from Delugs

I also like the Santos Galbee more than the current iteration of the Santos, which is a bit too rounded for me. My favorite Santos is the grey dial version of the ref. 2319, which is a limited edition made for SIHH in 2002. That one has no chemin de fer or date window on the dial, making it quite unique.

Is there a no date galbee?

Thanks for the eye candy! Have the Santos-Dumont (and 2 Tanks and a Panthere), and I’m now thinking about getting the Ballon Bleu and the Santos de Cartier as well (probably the green dial for variety). Huge fan of Cartier watches as you can see ☺️🩶

beautiful design, but these watches don't age well - unless scratches or gouges don't bother you. i hate watching (no pun intended) my every movement in fear of scratching a watch on my wrist.

I never used to like the looks of the Santos watches.. but my tastes have changed and they have grown on me visually over the past 5 or so years. I have an 8" wrist and the square watches are hit/miss for me. I'd prefer a matt surround so as to avoid all the nicks and scratches if I were to settle on one. Plus the bracelet would have to have some sort of macro-adj... or it just get's uncomfortably tight or loose on my wrist. Happens w/all bracelets... and I always prefer a bracelet on my watches. Unless we're talking Panerai. The Santos is a cool watch and I hope you've found "the one" for you this go around!

Joking, but the guilloche model has been on the wishlist for about a year now ever since I found out it existed. In some cases, you can find this model with a more cream/yellowish tint on the dial due to aging which contrasts with the blue hands for an even more stunning look.
