I am over an hour into this and this dude never actually makes an argument and comes off as a massive asshole in the process - if you are FOR libel/slander laws, then you inherently believe that there is a harm that can be asserted vis a vis misinformation making any argument to protect it incredibly stupid and a matter of just saying things to say them and be a contrarian.

Vaccines only work when everyone is on the same page. Spreading misinformation on public health is an anti-human position, and anti-society. It's reprehensible to be against banning medical misinformation.

Sure with algorithms we cant truly know the scope of it but we can see how humans weight it and act on that info.. Like how Elon was being dunked on for the algorithm having a massive Elon bias and what accounts were protected or topics that are boosted.

The only defence of misinformation I'd accept, is the argument "Who decides what's misinformation and what's not."

Being given access to machine learning algorithms would end up in exactly the same position. Learned people from either side would have to interpret the information for lay people to understand; one group would lie if it was advantageous to their goal and the other group would point out the lies.

Actually the usa DOES have hate speech laws. While you can't get arrested from hate speech alone, hate speech can be used for evidence for hate crimes, and hate speech can be considered part of a pattern of harassment, which IS illegal.

Specifically on all the time spent talking about what is our isn't possible or useful related to transparency of social media internals,
your algorithmic fatalism betrays a bit of ignorance and possibly some dissonance-induced misunderstanding of your compatriot's point, leading to a lot of discussion where you were in violent agreement, but you ended up in black-and-white thinking that sounded vaguely magical and mostly just aggressive due to the inertia of the discussion.
