with explosive barrels, strong aoe spells and stealth being a thing, lesser illusion is a very powerful tool. and in pen and paper, i would always go with mage hand. sure it is a weak knock of from elfenlied..or the poor mans telekinesis, but it has a huge quality of life ratio.
but for sure, the friends guidance combo on your sorlock man char gives you amazing options.

A bit late for the party but I will strongly recommend chill touch. It prevents regeneration which can be very annoying at times. It also debuffs undead. That cantrip, false life and magic missile have been the bread and butter for my sorcerer.

I absolutely love what they have done with the social cantrips. They are almost too powerful, but at the same time friends is hard to use in 5e usually, unless you're a sorc with subtle spell. True strike is still a bit janky unfortunately, but hopefully it will start looking a lot better when we get higher levels and more attacks per round.

at lvl 11 eldrich blast is sick, i hope we get multiclass. and we can do some quicknned meta magic + eldrich blast for a total of 8 per round adding charisma and hex on each

Friends would probably my #1 choice. There is nothing else that does what it does.

As you also said in you notes on patch 5, the active roll system always giving you access to Guidance (and Friends), makes many rolls almost too easy. I have noticed most DCs are 10 which is normally a 50% chance for an unskilled character guidance toyally skews this and the inspiration system even more. I think maybe the standard difiiculty should be bumped to 12 to even things out a bit.

As a DnD player, I'm irked that you're calling the d10 cantrips "low damage"
That's the damage of a heavy crossbow without the need to reload
And you lot will see how truly powerful that is once you get to breach the EA level cap

I tried playing baldurs gate 2 and I find it very confusing, is baldurs gate 3 more user friendly? I love RPGs and I'm trying to get into crpg but some are very complex and go over my head.

Cantrips and some spells can be so underrated. I played a party-support sorcerer in 3.5 rules DnD, a late addition to the party. I used many "boring" spells creatively to give the opponents disadvantage and also blocking retreat and sounding the alarm. The other PC's loved it.

Videos like this really make me want to like Baldur's gate. I tried playing it a few times. The slow pace of it really bores the hell out of me along with the linear story of it. I would like to create my own party and explore the open world in it. Level up skills.

While it might not come up in the game, another use for the Light cantrip in 5e is tagging creatures with it to make them glow for an hour. This can help you track an enemy that attempts to run away, or keep tabs on an invisible creature. They do get a Dex Save to avoid being tagged though.

Hex is good and all, but if you're fighting a humanoid that really needs to die, the opt for hold person: everyone in the party will have advantage to hit, and the hits will automatically be critical.

Don't forget you can also put out fire with ray of frost (no need for create rain).
But my pick for best cantrip is guidance.

Went into the goblin camp and took on the leaders with a level 2 ranger, gale, shadowheart, and wyll. 3 were immediately downed leaving only wyll who had just managed to get into the rafters. Eldritch blast killed every last gobo.

Eldritch blast X 9 and any something else for variety.

Got the game fairly recently, first game I've built a high-elf eldritch knight. Let's say that Charisma checks are my favourite now XD

I may be nitpicking but if a spell has effect (Ray of Frost) that decreases movement speed, then it should be 10 ft PER something e.g. round, not just 10ft. Speed is a distance in time.
