Excited to find this as I've been looking for a slightly different take on beef stew with potatoes, and I was wondering what other seasonings were used instead of the usual US/UK salt, pepper, and Worcestershire. I'm fascinated by the addition of cumin, it reminds me of a picadillo recipe I love. And the smokiness from smoked paprika 😋 Hope I can make this before the winter's up 😁

About 70 years ago when China was a poor agricultural country, our grandparents learned this dish from our Soviet Union tovarish and cooked it as the best food for new year's table. Our parents also had a good memory about this recipe.

And now we still like this dish, rich nutrition and great taste, and it's easy to cook. lol.
