Not normally a rum guy but bought this based on the recommendation of Ralfy......FANTASTIC STUFF!!

Ralfy recommend it a few years ago. 👍 He also recommended the El Dorado 21, I bought a bottle, it was excellent.

Rum (or rhum) doesn’t have hard and fast rules. Some ages are like whiskey, some you can’t rely on. I believe Barbancourt has legit age statements, as does Appleton Estate, El Dorado, and Four Square. However, Ron Zacapa’s (among others) age statements aren’t legit. Also, some add coloring and sugar/flavor.

Rhum Barbancourt is one of the naturally presented brands. It’s a Rhum agricole, using juice from the sugar cane and not molasses for distillation. It’s a good choice!

No expert here but out of 50 or so bottles we have anything from the Foursquare distillery won’t disappoint and no lies in bottle. 😁

Not sure I'd find this near me but sounds interesting. I have the Navy Strength Smith & Cross Jamaican rum that has a similar chemical type note that's funky. I think it has to do with esthers in the distillation process or fermentation process.

You guys should try Tiburon 8 year small batch rum. It’s distilled in Belize, they age it in oak, then finish it in ex-bourbon barrels, so it’s got a ton of vanilla and Caramel sugar.

A good available Rum at Total Wine is Doorly 14 year at 48%. Made in Barbados so it actually is 14 years old.

If you are looking for Hamden that does break the bank look for Stolen Overproof Rum. It is an independent bottle of Hampden rum. Should be $20 for 375 ml and is exclusively distributed by Total Wine in the USA

BART is lucky he isn’t in Canada! You all pay so much less for spirits! That’s an understatement!! Seriously!! Come on Bart! For a great whisky or rum it’s worth putting out bigger bucks! Here’s an example - Laphroaig 10 is $85 before about 15% in taxes!

Nice... something different. I drink the 8yr regularly. Try a Worthy Park to get some Rum Funk. If you like it try a Hampden.

This is how I was told Rhum (also called rhum agricole) is a type of rum, distilled from fresh-pressed sugar cane juice.And Rum well still time distilled from molasses. I did try Rhum definitely more vegetal to me Not as sweet, if you come across Doorlys 14 in total wine definitely get it. Even 12 is great. Thank you guys for another great video!

Age statements on rum aren’t universal, but generally countries that are former English and French colonies list the age of the youngest rum in the bottle, the same as whiskey. Rums from former Spanish colonies don’t follow that rule. Also, English & French style rums don’t allow additives (other than color). Spanish style rums are often sweetened.
