The Godfather Part II Deleted Scene - Punks assault Fanucci

They should have left this in, not just for the sake of content but just before Vito kills Fanucci you can see the scars on his neck especially in the shots where he watches the puppet show.

This would have made Fanucci look way too weak

I’m glad this wasn’t in the final cut. Vito was way too smart to figure out that Fanucci was a fake don. Scenes like this would’ve made it way too obvious

This explains why Vito shot Fanucci in the head one final time after shooting him in the heart and the cheek. "No resurrection this time"

This scene should've been left in the movie. It explains Vito's impression that Fanucci isn't as powerful as the neighborhood thinks he is, thus he can be killed without fear of reprisal.

It was good that this scene was edited out, because it makes Fanucci look too wimpish and Vito's hit on him appear less daring.

The guy who played genco is also a stanby xtra in godfather 1 when sonny is beating up his brotherinlaw

This scene really should’ve been kept it. It not only explained the scar on his neck, it also revealed to Vito that Fanucci was not the all power badass he made himself out to be. A point he capitalized on when he went to “negotiate “ with Fanucci later on.

Thank god they deleted this crap. It ruins the movie.

Actually, it would have helped in the decision to kill him because he was weak and unprotected.

This is how you knew Fanucci was not a "big shot" with "connections" and in the "black hand". If that was true a couple of teens would not have dared attack him and cut his throat. "Don" Fanucci was nothing but a thug shaking down the locals.

Fanucci was a Don like any other Don but he was ambushed by three assasins. Don Vito Corleone was watching all that from a distance and hinted him to get rid of them somehow.

Conventionally, a Don will not act as if he is scared. He however, took a hint from Don Vito Corleone that sometimes we need to downplay also because they were armed.

Fanucci was writhing in pain and screaming as if to tell everyone what these kids from the 9th Street were upto.

Later on, Don Vito Corleone was informed by Genco that Fanucci's throat was cut from ear to ear. This was quite unfortunate thought Don Vito Corleone. He guessed it right that the bad kids from the 9th Street must have killed Fanucci.

Genco purposefully was trying to give this information to Don Vito Corleone unless he wanted to read the mind of the Don. In fact, Genco had requested him to carry his load of one box to the other Street and Don Vito Corleone obliged.
He was never allowed to even lift a single spoon at the house and on that fateful day Genco wanted him to cross the street where the kids were rampant.

Don appeared as if he cared less about Fanucci and told Genco that usually in his town people die under such circumstances.

Being a Don, he knows his business like the other ones.

Vito Corleone and Genco Abbandando or Jimmy Conway and Frankie Carbone?

While a funny scene there was already enough evidence that Fanucci may have had connections but he was a made man, he wasn't high up on the food chain, simply put Vito came from a town with a real Mafia Don and he knows they never do their own dirty work. The more he saw Fanucci doing work of underlings he would have known the guy is small time.

this scene wouldve ruined the fanucci hit for me.. He looked like a total weakling getting his ass kicked by a bunch of teenage boys..
