Word of advice for the lady... if you ever read these comments, change up your body language/ arm movements when you speak. You don't have to use the same ones over and over 👍👍🏽👍🏻

Ugh I used to like Mary Beard but her underhanded shade towards Christianity is so disingenuous and gross. Not to mention, her “progressive” bias is showing. Not just showing, it’s flashing children through its cross dress trench coat at a playground

You can find a lot of reasons for Rome's decline, but they can all be summarized in two words: Social Entropy. Jist like in the physical world, it happens to every society, though they always think it never will. Look around you, America.

I thought it was Jesus Christ and people's belief in him that eventually led Rome to ruin .

Rome fell in the final analysis because of the basic physical laws of thermodynamics - what was once red hot eventually cools down -that's what eventually will happen to the universe!

Don't get me wrong, I am an avid fan and follower..
But, weirdly enough, many thousands of people were savaged by wild animals.. eww. Enough to make you bring up your popcorn.
But Christians were smothered in oil and burnt alive on crosses? Probably a longer, drawn out death. More spectacular.. just saying. 😥

States in general come and go. Who really believes USA and UK will continue in their current form 300 years from now, most likely they will split or reform under something else. Just because it's 2023 doesn't mean The State in its current form.will accept a revolution, like times gone before you are deemed a terrorist or revolutionary if you go against it.

Jesus Christ was minister of the circumcision, to confirm the promises made by the prophets. Jesus Christ preached Judaism, the gospel of the kingdom, the law of Moses, the prophets, Proverbs. Israel lost their favored political independence in 606BC because of sin and unbelief. God's judgement was on the nation. The Babylonians under Nebuchadnezzar(ancient iraq) destroyed the temple built by King Solomon. The times of the gentiles politically begins. We are still in the times of gentiles politically (2023) Persians (ancient iran) conquer Babylon. They permitted the Jews to return to their homeland and restore the temple. The Greeks conquer the Persians. The Romans conquer the Greeks. The early Jewish kingdom church who believed Christ was the Messiah/King of the Jews, never called themselves "Christian". The word is only used three times in scripture. Its a generic name, pagans called Jews(Christian) who believed Christ was the Messiah/King of the Jews/The Great "I AM" Christ loved to quote the Psalms.

Titus and the Roman legions destroyed the temple built by King Herod in 70AD. Jesus warned the nation of Israel 38 years before it happened. In 135AD the Roman empire exiled the Jews out of their God given land, they changed the name of the country from Judea/Northern kingdom of Israel too Philistinia, which where the word Palestine comes from. The Philistines originally migrated from the Greek isles into Caanan. They disappeared as a culture and people in 600BC during the reign of King Solomon. The Philistines(Palestinian) were not Semitic or Arab.

It's funny how Britons consider their accendants barbarians just because their overlords, the Roman's at that time called them that and that's exactly what the Britons did in the 18th & 19th century to the rest of the world. These people still haven't gotten over the fact that the Roman emperors who's feet they kissed are long gone! The rest of the world liberated themselves from Brits but Brits themselves are still emotionally slaves of the Romans.

I absolutely love Mary Beard ! She makes Roman History so fun and exciting. I wish I’d had Mary teaching me Ancient Rome, Bettany Hughes teaching Ancient Greece and Egypt, and Suzannah Lipscomb teaching English and French history in the 16th century, covering religious, gender, political, social, and psychological history. She could also teach British and European witch trials. Now that would make for an excellent and exciting syllabus !!!

Saint Mary Magdalene
Saint Mary Magdalene - 29.08.2023 00:35

The spread of Christianity is what led to the end of the Roman empire. After the Crucifixion of Jesus, there were Roman soldiers that converted to Christianity in secret and spread it throughout the empire. They used Sator squares etched on walls and plaster to communicate with each other. Once Roman Emperor Constantine converted to Christianity and founded Constantinople, The Pagan Roman empire was no more.
