The OM system example is spot on, about the Olympus 300mm f4 "smaller than full frame", in reality its just like comparing between a FF 400mm f2.8 prime and a FF 400mmf5.6 prime. Or, to put it into actual perspective, an a7r5 with 70-200GM2 +1.4x cropped to 4752 x 3564 (17MP) would produce similar results as a m43 with 300mm f4, while the Sony is lighter, much shorter, way more flexibilty in reframing (280mm to 600mm) and similarly priced (lens wise)

I just purchased the canon r7 came from my cellphone to the canon m50mark2 and now have the canon r7. I love this camera very much and with canons low budget rf options it's a win for me. I don't need the most expensive L glass to take great amazing pictures there basic glass is plenty good for me and what I use it for now if I was a professional and it was my business then sure L glass is just pro tools but I'm a father of 3 and a doggy and I'm shooting alot of soccer games and walks in the park / photography from landscape to astro for my own enjoyment and leisure. I do eventually want to make money off my learned skill and with canons lowered end glass its totally possible to get a start with them and eventually jump to higher end glass. I only hate that last time I bought into a apsc line I made the mistake to go with the m50s line not really thinking much about lenses I was new and saw good reviews on the camera and the the price... bought ef-M glass witch some gems in the line up. And now I'm on to the r7 and none of those lenses can come with me and now my only options are ef/efs glass or rf glass for the most part and as much as my camera won't utilize the rf glass as much there's doggy poop for apsc lenses again soo RF glass it is and who knows maybe canon won't change mounts again or all together kill off the rf-s mount and I'll get some great apsc lenses for this great r7. Anyways that's my story you guys had alot to do with my next Canon camera thanks to your R camera videos I was able to decipher the canon R line and fou d the r7 was the exact camera I needed in my life. Much love you guys keep doing what your doing helping all of us dummys wade threw this wonderfully world of photography!

I'm just gonna say this... if my wife was that blazay blah about spending 10k on a camera I'd be ending the video session and ordering it like right now. Practicality be damned im spending 10k on it if I had it and my wife was like "why not".

Pentax - not a mention! Yes, useless for video but great build including weather sealing and with a menu system that's simple to use and great viewfinders. They last as my K5 from 2011 proves. For someone on a budget the compatibility with older lenses combined with this build means you can have a system that's still reasonably priced and allows the novice to experiment and learn their craft.

Nikon just launched the ZF and everyone seems to love it, but, it's a retro Nikon that can't focus retro AF-D lenses. Nikon needs an FTZ adapter with a built in focus motor for old AF-D lenses.

i was avid/die hard Nikon customer. WAS i said. Nikon just doesnt do it for me anymore. Everything you stated about Nikon is why i got rid of all my camera bodies, and lenses and went with Sony (A7R V) and 3 lenses. Love the Sony. My wife shoots with the A9 and she loves it. Sorry Nikon, you guys have to make the mentioned improvements.

I have invested in Sony since their first DSLR Alpha was available in 2010 (I assume?) and have a few lenses with the A Mount.

A few years later that Alpha camera was faulty and I am looking forward to get a full frame from Sony.

However what pisses me off is that Song switched to an e-mount lens system and all of my lenses (Carl Zeiss T Sonnar 135mm 2.8) cannot be mounted on their newer cameras unless I get an expensive Mount converter.

I used to do some hobby/semi-pro videography a long time ago (late90s early 2000s) and I used Panasonic video cameras and their focusing ability was so much above a Sony that it was not even funny. Especially when shifting focus from near to far, sony was just hunting back and forth and it was a celebration if it eventually brings the subject in focus. But with Panasonic that was never an issue. Strange how things have shifted...

I clearly qualify as a Nikon loyalist, and until the Z8 introduction a DSLR holdout. Now I’ve created a spreadsheet mapping out my F to Z transition plan. Your overview of the major brands, where they’ve been and where they are going was illuminating, especially for one who for convenience if nothing else ignored the other brands. I’m reminded of how much I loved using my OM-1 kit of decades ago. Recently my granddaughter, shopping for a film body, bought a vintage OM-1. She said it just spoke to her. She was unaware of my history with that camera. For all the tech specs and test reports, in the end our choices have more to do with love than logic.

I think Fujifilm is quite innovative with their lineup of X and GFX cameras. And they are trying out things. I'm happy that they don't leave us with the big 3. (I shoot Fujifilm, Nikon F and Leica Q and somehow don't like Canon and Sony.)

These two have no concept when it comes to high end hybrid applications. We're using Z9's along side of Arri on set. They replaced the A1's because the overall color science from Nikon is an even better match to cinema cameras. On top of that, for set photography, Nikon is also better just via ergonomics. Not that I expect Tony and Chelsea to comprehend what happens when you put 30K glass on a hybrid camera, but they are in a very low-end world of shooting. Of course, for general shooting, you can't go wrong with ANY of these systems. But at the high-end hybrid world, Nikon has the momentary lead with the Z8 and Z9.

Tony and Chelsea, I appreciate all the hard work you put in to show us all the features of all these very expensive Cameras and Lenses, But I am on Disability and really enjoy photography and there is no way I could ever afford one of these setups. I have been looking at Nikon like the D3s Or D4s as these can be obtained for 500. or less and still have a pro type system could you make some suggestions for very limited budget. thank you in advance Tony

Here what I believe. We are living in a good time where so many good camera are being made, Nikon, Canon, Fuji..Sony. except for some cases (like fast autofocus or multiple frame rates) you can pretty much get the same results in any brand if you choose a appropriate model.
So what is boils down to at the end?
Which brand you like. Being Fan boy and loving you gears. I can pretty much love every brand camera except for Sony. They make fantstic camera with fantastic glasses. I just can not connect to it. Maybe it is because they lack history comparing to Nikon, Canon, Hasselblad , Leica. I need my camera to have a soul, being best at everything is not that important.

Truth be told, the reason I like Nikon and stick in to it wasn't because how great it is, which I think it is. But it is because my idol in photography, steve mccurry, used to work with Nikon SLR and DSLR.

I do believe these fight over trashing other cameras is silly. But there is nothing wrong with being a fan and loyal customer.

I have owned an A7R3 since it came out. I have all the updates. I have used it nearly to death. I hate it. It keeps on running but It's a friggin Sony. They are doing so many anti-consumer things in all of their vertices. I won't buy their new stuff because of that attitude and Bx. Canon lost my trust when they wouldn't support their professional printer after three years. I have never owned a Nikon because of the body price for what they offered. I just don't know which direction to go anymore. So far I'm stuck with Sony.

Olympus cameras are great. I have several Sony cameras (NEX-5, a6000, a6300, ZV-e10) but more often than not I take the Olympus with me. (EM5). Great ergonomics, fabulous stabilization, weather resistant body, built like a tank, and looks great. Small, super duper lenses, many or which are weather resistant. Yes, my Sony cameras are better in some circumstances (especially for video) but for general travel and street photography I prefer the Olympus.

sony is like a I phone with out negatives of i phone. I own canon and nikon just because compatibly with astrophotography adaptors and manually of the technology for astrophotography. now I am interested in regular for fun photograph and sony looks real tempting. I do not want to thing about lens problem future update futures or any problems and I know company will stay because almost everything produce with sony sensors. they also can support business with other branches like audio. they just say ok here very functional camera that will not cause any problem in the future and we are not a company that limits products with our ecosystem but you have to pay for it at least from my perspective.

SIZE MATTERS: Smaller IS better! What u can load in a backpack for OM, u need a steamer trunk for the full frame guys! So if ur not a serious professional with sherpas, u will always beat them with ur Olympus gear, no matter what u want to call OM!

It’s just too similar with Steve Job’s saying: “The best camera is the one in ur pocket”!!!!!!!
OM is still in shell shocked transition, so exercise restraint when making rash comments!
