no CGI will ever look as real and terrifying as those puppets.... The modern movies not only have really stupid plots, but they just don't look real for some reason. The difference is really noticeable when you see scenes like these.

I still think this scene could remain scary even if the raptors where more scientifically accurate

You what makes this movie better then the Jurassic world movies? The lighting feels more natural and warm. It actually make feel like the characters are there.

Smart dinosaur to open the door

As a kid, this scene felt 30 minutes long. The suspense was almost too much to bear.

Terrifying that raptors know how to open doors, you gotta lock them

One thing I like doing with Jurassic Park and this scene in particular is play CGI or practical effects. Half of what keeps the special effects looking so good is they mix between them so that your eye is tricked. Most of the time when you just see claws/legs or the head its a puppet or a special effects artist in fake dino legs, when you see most of the velociraptor body, like when the second raptor enter the room, its CG. The T-rex attack in the rain is also another great scene for this.

Why do early 90s special effects look better than today's special effects?

Wish they didn't try to humanise the raptors in Jurassic World. They went from killers to gimmicks.

For you kids who grew up having CGI in every blockbuster movie, understand that when we watched this scene for the first time, we weren't thinking "Wow, those computer graphics are great!" We were thinking "AHHHH THE VERY REALISTIC DINOSAURS ARE GOING TO EAT THE CHILDREN!!!"

It wasn't the CGI that made this movie a masterpiece, but the direction, design, acting, storytelling, combined with the CGI that made it great.
