The Best 90mm Macro? Tamron vs Sony

I sold my Sony because I was considering the Sigma 105mm Macro. Fortunately, I waited for this Tamron to compare both. You are right about the Sony being outdated for today’s sensor tech, and it would be great to see a refresh. That clutch mechanism is really useful. I don’t use macro often....I just want one in my kit and tend to go for the best available, so I refresh my kit when something nicer comes along 😂

I wouldn't say that OSS doesn't matter, for handheld video macro shooting is like having footage or not having, for my use case is crucial, sensor stabe is only good in A7RV, all other camera ibis is rather bad, OSS works better.
About minimum focus distance, if its 23cm, that means you have shorter working distance between lens and object to get 1:1? If it is true then another reason to chose sony, more space between skitish bug means higher chance of getting footage before it flee away.

But why is nobody putting the new Tamron head-to-head with the Sigma 105 DG DN? The Sigma is superior to the Sony in terms of image quality, so why are we choosing to compare to the Sony which, by the way, was released in 2015? My gut tells me Tamron is sending their lens out to reviewers, but somehow "discouraging" them from comparing it directly to the Sigma. I'm not buying the hype of this lens until I see it reviewed against the Sigma.
