"My live matter too" Is the tagline for tis show. Omi Man got this hammed down with the quick to die bug people and Mark gets thenegativ by Amber taking herself to be more valuable being more than his girlfriend. Its absolutely necessary to show the season of her fitting the trope and also why mark moms got to work out at least for some time She had no agency but also no come back. But she is not build for the added pressure of her live being in danger just because she is with him. She got shown Your live is only notable to this alien because you are with mark. And that's a reason to be killed. Its an grade example of its not just the plot twist of the normal girlfriend not keeping up with the superhero but her actually fearing she will end um without her One live and that live ending because of him. and no love can possible live up to that. This maters to mark Because that's What he cares about. not the idea of maxed lives alive on the planet but Single Lives.

Also I’m very confused do u want he to have agency and value their relationship or do u want her to be a supportive girlfriend while mark does super hero stuff. U say u miss her willingness to check mark now but a season ago u were arguing how that makes he ungrateful bc he is saving lives.

Okay, that semi-spoiler about what Anissa did in the comic. I admittedly haven't read them so I don't know if it was handled well or not.
But, considering our current socio-political climate I think it would be best if they kept it in.
It's an issue that rarely gets taken seriously. If this show were to tackle it in the same way they tackled the fallout of Chicago it would be groundbreaking.

The show really kinda wrote themselves into a corner with Amber. If she stayed how she was in season 1, you risk people still absolutely hating her. If that happens then people no longer care about their breakup. However if you change her to try and make a more impactful breakup, you strip her of all the agency she had and people also don’t care about the breakup. AKA there was never gonna be a satisfying conclusion to this relationship. There wasn’t enough time in this 8 episode season to give it the attention it deserved, and give Amber the conclusion she deserved.

Since I read the comics (for a while, eventually I just lost interest so I'm not super familiar with the late stuff), I gotta say... the stuff with Amber is way better here than the comics. The version you mentioned where Amber is nothing but a love interest is what we got in the comics, more or less. A lot of the problem with Amber is she still has to end up in the same place as what was originally more or less a non-character. A lot of the weirdness is there to reach that point, and it does a disservice, but that's the cost of hitting the broad beats of the original story which... honestly wasn't very good, or smart, or subversive. They've added a lot to that, but to do some of these things justice, like Amber, they'd have to send the whole story in an entirely different direction.

A big part of the lack of amber fans is because her situation is literally unrelatable. Audiences get more attached to characters and events that remind them of aspects of real life. No one is having to deal with dating a superhero irl. Unless you use military spouses as an example...

One thing I think your forgot to mention about Amber IS how traumatising being on the verge of death like that, she said she felt Anissa could have killed her right there and then, honestly the fact that she even CONSIDERS being in Mark's vicinity After that IS crazy because I would have cut all contact and laid in my bed for 2 weeks 😭😭

Funny enough, I imagined an opposite scenario where throughout the show we actually got to see Amber both with and without Mark, the life she lives, protests, and community service, and just hanging out and how slowly those things get eroded away as she makes time to try and spend with Mark only to be delayed, dodged, and interrupted so that we get to see that she has an actual life and how dating a superhero has essentially ruined that for her.

I can definitely see where you're coming from as far as Mark and Amber's relationship not being for you. You make a lot of really good points. And they make sense, but I still really like them. I definitely missed the Amber from season 1, and it made me feel bad for the amber from this season. It sucks that they couldn't work out, but I understand why they couldn't.

PS: Ok, i partially agree with your criticisms. They could've shown more of Ambers life outside Mark.

I really did not like Amber in the first season, but I feel they did a good job this season making her feel like a person with her own life. I love how they dealt with the complications of a super hero life versus an every day person's life. They admittedly did use Amber as the catalyst for Mark's turmoil in the season of who he is and what does he want, but I feel this could've been written so much worse.

There had better be more Amber after this. What I want desperately is some Amber and Eve friendship. The girls share a bunch of humanitarian aspirations and Eve desperately needs a grounded person like Amber who isn't bothered by her powers the way previous civvie friends have dumped her. The scene they had together, even though it was just about Mark, showed how caring and alturistic they both are. Eve is pining for Mark, but gives Amber good relationship advice and Amber is struggling with dating Mark because she cares so much. I want more of them together over something that isn't just about Mark.

I really liked Amber this season. Not only did they listen to the fans, they also actually gave room for her to grieve, feel bad, lonely & try to build a life in which she can be her own person. I was actually so happy to see their cute date, and their break up broke my heart. It was nice to see her move on through Mark's eyes.
I don't agree with you that she "lost her agency", quite the contrary. Instead of being a stereotypical "boss b" she's an actual human being. You kinda left away the parts in which it is shown how college life affects her: she fails tests, goes to lectures in her pajamas, having friends & having aspirations to move up the student council ladder.
To me Amber felt MUCH more real than the brat she was in in season 1.

Mark and Amber might seem weird in the show because she wasn't originally such a big focus. In the comics she was closer to a background character. Mark was pretty much just like "oh yeah I have a gf now" and introduced her. She didn't have such a big personality either, their big argument in the comics was she thought he was a drug dealer is the cause of him disappearing and getting injured.

So, Amber's character arc became an "Endless 8" situation.

For reference "Endless 8" was a series of 8 episodes of the second season of "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya". So, spoilers for that.

Endless 8 depicts a summer vacation. The same summer vacation. 8 times. For 8 episodes. They didn't half ass it either. Different animation every time. The characters were even wearing different clothes each time. Basically, our main characters were stuck in a time loop, and they didn't know it until like the 6th or 7th one.

So, why did the show runners do it? Because it turns out, one of these characters knew. They didn't cause it, but they knew and they are not allowed to stop it even IF they know how. They are supposed to just observe what was going on. Also, this time loop has been repeating for like thousands of years or some ridiculous time frame. So the frustration the audience was feeling, this character was feeling it way worse. Which motivated them to do something in later, even when they were not allowed to.

Amber's character traits disappearing at season 2 may have been intentional to show how being Mark's girlfriend did to her.

They probably should have shown a montage of what she was like before season 2 while she was giving that speech or something.

the big problem with Amber is in the comics she is just 100% just marks girlfriend and was just a plot device for "dating superhero suck", in season 1 they tried to make her more, give her an actual personality have him call him out on his bullshit and be someone who cares about helping others. but they shot themselves in the foot, in the comics she doesn't know Mark is invincible, she thinks his a drug dealer, and him abandoning her when they were attacked at the college was the final straw, she learns the truth and gives him another chance even thinks him being a super hero is really cool
but by making her know and still doing the "you abandoned me when I was in trouble" while knowing he just got his ass kicked protecting her turns her into a horrible manipulative person. and all the backlash was definitely warranted, but now they seem to have just regressed back to just marks girlfriend like in the comics rather than sticking with her personality.

and yeah as a result of her being so shallow in the comics the break up dose actually work kinda better

Amber for sure I couldn’t care about. They should’ve doubled down on the toxic relationship with her. I’ll play the “taste of your own medicine” here where we finally get a female being the toxic one in the relationship and then they tried to make her “better” which made it worse to try and get me to like her. I honestly couldn’t have cared for Amber and skipped their adult scene. Double standards 🙏🏽 also with how terrible Anissa is, it also shows a male getting forced R by a female which ay, rated E for equal here

i find it weird how none of the other super heroes made it into the guardians of the globe; they are the top heroes, most would probably want to join them. which begs the question, why did noone from lets say, capes inc or the wolf corps or anyone try out for the guardians? you can see kid thor and knockout standing among the older guardians when they talk to mark to save him from angstrom's wasteland dimension. where did they go?
