This is also on my wishlist - really interesting to reach via land as Russia is difficult on a good day to arrive even with a visa. Really enjoyed my visit to St Petersburg and Moscow even using a very old train between the two. Great your girlfriend speaks Russian, but did it feel more European?

That visa process is now finished. They give free e-visas to visit Kalinigrad to everyone in the EU except for the UK. So if I were to go I'd have to apply for a regular visa lol

So...if that was still Prussia, he flew into Danzig, took a bus to Elbing and on to Koenigsberg...and if he’d gone further, he could have travelled to Memel...all within the same political entity...that being Germany...but on his journey he visited Poland and Russia without visiting Lithuania...
Fascinating how history changes borders, cities and towns...and how 105 years separates the Prussian experience to today....
