Why would you want to pay zero taxes??

Taxes provide us with a system that works for us, to avoid taxes is a joke! This is concerning, and it's totally a lie, there is no avoiding tax with earning Australian source income. The ATO isn't stupid!

@WealthyExpat
If an American acquires Australian PR via 190, but don't intend to live in Australia, only for vacationing a couple of months in a year or retiring decades in the future, would the PR visa automatically make this person an Australian tax resident? Even if the tests mos likely indicate they're foreign?

Hi Guys, sorry not related to this video.
I saw your video on selling home and exempts from CGT.

Have some question -
For example -
If I sell property in Oct 2022 my main residence (where I lived since 2014)
Only have one residence
So after selling this property and I decided to move to overseas …. So I still pay EXIT TAX…..

I am Australian citizen
Have this property since 2013 (never rented - always living in this property )
And have one investment property in Brisbane (renting)

Do I still have to pay tax if I move overseas
And May live there temporarily like 8 months and then come back or May be decide to stay there indefinitely?

Thanks for your help.

The shittiest part is the bank account thing as there are plenty of reasons to have bank accounts in many countries, even Australia (makes paying govt fees - passport, ATO, etc. easy). Australia is the only bloody country that in one breath say that you can have as many bank accounts around the world as you like as long as you let the ATO know about them, but then in the next breath they argue that even one bank account in Australia makes you subject to being tax resident. It's beyond screwed up.

Two examples (family ties thing):
* A former colleague of mine was deemed tax resident because his sister and his parents remained in Australia (this excuse is used by the ATO if you're single and/or don't have kids).

* A friend got deemed tax resident because he didn't take the family dog (legally belonged to his parents so there was nothing he could do) overseas because it was deemed a "family tie".

I guess the best way to leave the hellhole that is Australia is to go full scorched earth - move everything overseas, talk your relatives into moving overseas (not sure if uncles, aunts, cousins, etc. count in the eyes of the ATO), and then finally renounce citizenship (if the regime will allow that - they generally don't allow that) and then never return. Short of that the ATO will do everything in their power to take every last cent they can get from you - hence the upcoming horrible tax residency rules that everyone is talking about.

what sort of person wants to pay no tax to a country that it enjoys the benefits of? it's one thing to reduce it but to pay absolutely NO tax at all? everyone should share a little in that burden and the tax burden obviously changes depending on how wealthy you are.

I have all my assets in Australia but what if I intend to retire overseas and use the rental income from my properties in Australia? How do I avoid being taxed as a non-resident which is a higher tax rate. On this occasion I prefer being taxed as a resident.

Unfortunately, unless you have $10’s of millions, this doesn’t work. As an example, if you own $1 million in fully franked shares in Australia you will pay less than if your a non Australian with $1 million in shares because of the 20% withholding tax. I haven’t done the sums over $1 million but you could probably still be better off with $2-3 million in fully franked shares as an Australian and live outside Australia than becoming a non resident for tax purposes.

ATO was never gazetted to be lawful in the first place, we don't owe any foreign registered administration anything. This is a common law country as it states on immigration documentation. The corruption of AUSTRALIA in all caps is not our mainland as proven on maritime mapping coordinates. All foreign registered administration has no place on our mainland. Corporat maritime crap on land is communism. Your lack off knowledge in this area is disgusting.

If you are not earning any income from Australia, why would you be worried about paying any tax? If you do earn income in Australia as a non resident, no matter where you are living, you pay tax on that Australian income.
