So dose the modem/router plug strait into your existing phone socket or do you have to get a new wall socket put in.

I literally don't get how to set up a router or either use one. What I mean by that is "I have no fucking idea what to do." I am currently with Telstra (rip), and we are with a plan. They end up sending us a modem. We end up plugging it in, not caring in the world as it works. But then we have routers.. People say you need a better router to "unlock" most of your internet speed and shit (well i really don't know if thats the case). But they never really explain how you would set up a router. What do you do with the modem? I am constantly trying to find an answer. Could you help please?
