Richard, what a cracking day for driving today. Just saw you in the E type when you were almost home.

I have had an MGB GT I found the only problem for me was the gear stick was set so far back I had to put my arm in an uncomfortable position to change the gears, the other thing was I at times forgot to turn the overdrive off. It was a great little car though it had the Mini feel on country roads you could leave other cars behind by minuets on a country rip.

So the BBC lets the presenters keep the cars, well Hammond did say he kept the MGB, milking the TV Licence fee for self benefit, not on.

I 'm on my second roadster and have always wanted a GT but haven't found the right one yet. Great to see Hammond on this channel.

it must be great to have loads of money though and pay people to do it all then pretend you did it all

Worth remembering that as various hi-perf manufacturers boasted their latest 'optimal' designs, the MGB GT had perfect 50/50 weight distribution and is basically a 'front mid-engined' car. A sheer joy to hustle around, and I'm glad to see that Hammond acknowledges it

Love it! I'd really like a late rubber bumper BGT, dream would be a V8!

I've often said that, (like the Beatles), the MGB is much better than suggested by the sum of its parts. So it was nice to hear Richard Hammond say exactly the same thing. The MGB was very well engineered by gifted and capable designers, led by Sydney Enever. These guys really knew their game, and it shows every time you drive one. What they achieved with volume production off the shelf proprietary parts is really quite remarkable.

Why would anybody buy an MGB that you can't take the roof off ? Well, that's what I thought about the GT, until I had one. The driving experience is every bit as good as the roadster, whilst still retaining a real practicality (and pleasure) for the daily driver. MG certainly got it right with the MGB GT.

Had 3 MGB/GTs over the years. Still my favorite B. Just can't find a good one these days.

Bit of a rethink on dampers by the looks of it. Still looking for my first MGB GT, which is interesting as I started out looking for a Midget!
