To think if a few small things changed, if African soldiers didn't revot, is the goths or Persians had been led by lesser men, if the plague hit a bit later maybe Romen would still stand
ОтветитьMethinks ol' Procopius was writing a 'secret history' JIC Justinian did get overthrown...That way ,he could land on his feet and say..'see...I was documenting the whole thing." Whichever side won. Doesn't make it true, doesn't make it false...but it is Byzantine.
ОтветитьBrilliant😊
ОтветитьBelisarius: a general the emperor didn't deserve
ОтветитьGod bless belisarius a true Roman !! Savior of Rome !!
ОтветитьRespect for Belisarius
ОтветитьAmazing video series, great thanks
ОтветитьBelisarius' second campaign was ended NOT👎 in failure. He retook Sicily, the Roman lands of Italia and then the capital city before being recalled to the far EAST in an emergency situation against the Parthians. It was due to HIM that the Ostrogoths were a finished tribe by the time Italy again had to be reconquered
ОтветитьWe miss you commander Belisarius
ОтветитьBelisarius the BOSS was an epic and legendary hero in his own right. He could have been emperor but was humbled at being Rome's greatest general.
ОтветитьGreat documentary series 👍👍
ОтветитьBelisarius, My lord, carried the entire Rome one last time. I feel proud to say he is my most admired person on this planet.
Ответитьthe cowardice shown by everyone but belasarius is shocking
Ответитьbelisaurius was the scottie pippen of generals
Ответитьbelasarius the one last and true man standing against all odds. a definition of a great man and a great general .
ОтветитьA true A team the Byzantines or Eastern Romans had there.
Justinian maybe a palace emperor but he was extremely shrewd and somehow managed to balance his act, balanced and keep in check many nations and the Sassanid Empire.
He weathered crisis that would cause many of an Emperor to fold from the Nika riots to the great plague.
He knew who to select as his top commanders and he was astute and observant to use them at the right time.
Belisarius would naturally not be favoured as he was the natural born commander who would be as great as Julius Caesar if he were given all the resources. Instead Narses the Eunuch posed little to no threat to the throne as he cannot produce a lineage thereby using him as the follow up attacks was the most shrewd and unscrupulous manner to utilise his generals.
Justinian was a Machiavellian and was blessed to have amazing commanders. I do believe much of his decision making was influenced by the crafty Theodora who weaseled her way to the top. She can also be attributed to the successes in some way
Hmmm imagine what else the Vatican has hiding away in their vault.
ОтветитьSomebody needs to make a movie about this guy
ОтветитьFitting that ridiculous clowns like John and Isaac are held up by history to the scorn they deserved in life. Would be curious to know the exact relationship between Antonina and Theodora. I had read a work that portrays Antonina as being more loyal to Theodora than Belisarius. Regardless, Belisarius is the man.
ОтветитьMany thanks for tbis series, from a sicilian, knowing our island was freed by this legend, is an honor. I never knew of the letter Belisario sent to Totilla, what a wise man, Rome could have looked very different was it not for his love, respect and most of all foresight, May God Bless his souls and give him eternal rest.
Ответить300 VS 7000 men, my respect for belisarius is beyond limits
ОтветитьJustinian, Theodora, Belisarius, and Narses marked the Golden era of the Eastern Roman Empire!
Ответитьnow it's assailed by gypsies and foreigners from the worst armpits of the world. not much has changed
ОтветитьFantastic series, thanks!
ОтветитьPlease make a video about the Vietnamese people - a great people. ❤
ОтветитьRome's greatest enemy was always itself. I guess all these guys lacked the historical perspective to realize that over and over again these little feuds and coups weakened the empire until it fell apart
ОтветитьOl tortea and them Gotts !!!
ОтветитьThat letter Belisarius wrote to Totila hits hard when you think about it from a patriotic Roman's view. It is just something that should be preserved word for word as carefully as possible
ОтветитьHolly damn, I enjoyed this series so much, this incredible entertaining and interesting.
ОтветитьJustinian will be remembered as an indecisive fool.
ОтветитьJustinian Macedonian 🇲🇰
ОтветитьI think Belisarius made a mistake to not take up the throne when it was given to him by the Ostrogoths. Sure, the loyalty that belisarius held for emperor Justinian is admirable and undeserving for the emperor. However, to preserve the old Roman capital and to reinstate the Western Roman Empire, I think Belisarius should have crowned himself emperor. Under his command and resources, I think he would have made a great emperor and solidified the heart of Italy once more.
ОтветитьThe narration of charles nove sir is brilliant. The music is epic. I think Justinian only used Belisarius to his victories. But Belisarius not think about it and won many battles. One of the great military leaders story end like this. It is horrible. He need more gratitude. He is one of the best commanders. Like this the story of a great commander ends. Epic history tv s this series is one the best ever. I ve really enjoyed it. Thank you for this videos. A huge fan of your channel from Sri Lanka ❤️❤️❤️.
ОтветитьNot to be taken seriously?.....hmmmm if only we knew for sure that people in power are not greedy, perverted and not hungry for power to the point of obsession and madness! No, no you're right it cannot be true, because that never happens😂😂😂..............wait a sec 🤔
ОтветитьIt’s so depressing hearing 4K troops knowing damn well they used to send 100k lmao
ОтветитьI am enjoying a lot to watch Belisarius series while I live in few steps to ancient city walls and gates of ancient Constantinople and modern Istanbul. Great channel and productions.
ОтветитьAmazing. I can watch this type of content daily. The Gold Standard. Bravo!
ОтветитьLast but best Roman
ОтветитьWhat an awesome series! I did not know of Belisarius before, but i do know and im so grateful that i do!
What an amazing person of immense character, discipline and intelligence. He has become one of my favorite historical figures of all time, and its all thanks to your amazing work!
Justinian really was a fool and didn't deserve Belisarius' loyalty and skill, but that last battler had me on the edge of my seat and clapping. BRAVO!
👏
Procopious Hard Work Heads Off
ОтветитьIt’s incredible and depressing to see how Rome went from the heart of the world to an abandoned ghost town.
Ответитьmy roots have no relations with Rome and any land of Roman empire , but i cried with this last episode
ОтветитьA great general and human being.
ОтветитьHistory is epic, but it can be disappointing sometimes when you realize that these were real people, and so plot armor didn't exist.
You put a king and 300+ soldiers against a huge army, they die. No deus ex machinas to save the day. A war veteran-turned-dictator ambushed by 60+ senators, he dies. Great king drinks poison? Dies.
But Belisarius is just built different. While he seemed to always be at a the disadvantage and had incredible bad luck, he also seemed to have a super strong plot armor. He just somehow wins! LOL! It is a relief to know he died peacefully in his 60's. What a chad.
This series was great! Thank you for your work.
Wrong historical chronics. Not about Belly...
ОтветитьRun it back with a series on Trajan? His upbringing , military campaigns, & political success.
Ответить
