ОтветитьI live in Alston - not far from Hexham... Alston is known as "England's most remote market town", and is also its highest town in altitude above sea level. In 1765, John Smeaton designed and built the High Mill here in Alston, which still exists today. A year ago, the High Mill was purchased by Jonathan Muir and work is already underway in restoring and preserving this historically important Smetonian construction. As mentioned in your film, Smeaton's work in hydro-engineering led to his award of the Royal Society's Copley Medal.
Alston is extremely proud of our tiny piece of Smeaton's repertoire, and we are thankful to Jonathan Muir for his commitment to preserving it.
