Yeah Apple doing it the safe way. I built my own ai server just need quality uncensored image generators that actually work. I hate the fact that they water everything down into a selling gimmick with no real value by the time shipped. But uncensored liberated models running on local ai server you can access from anywhere is where it’s at.

I don't understand the comparison with OpenAI.

Apple is late to the game and didn't have the vision that Microsoft and OpenAI did, waaay back in 2019, when the initial investment in the development of ChatGPT iterations happened, so they're not going to bother to compete.

The reason is not money (cos we know that Apple would, if it was just about £££) it's vision and the strategy to execute on it.

OpenAI destroyed Google's confusing announcements with a simple, less than 30 minutes presentation, whereas Google took hours and built a wall of confusion, for AI solutions that will only be available, if you use their platforms, such as Workspace.

A further point on Apple and Google is that their announcements are mainly for consumers. I mean, search for photos that have a bike in them or create an emoji specially for my grandmother or jook me an Uber are hardly groundbreaking or earth shattering, fir that matter.

OpenAI is doing something very complex in the background but presenting it in a very simple, available to all way; an iterative platform, available via web browser or app. And it's a universal model, unlike dedicated agents or MoX or MoA. And who's to say that the 'omni' approach will not consume (not just overtake or compete with but consume entirely) everything that agents do, in the very near future.

So Apple has announced NOTHING. It's a pathetic attempt to even just stay in touch with the Google announcements and all, just like Google, are 6 months away and on phones that represent, what, 1%, 5% of their entire population?

But then again, that's deliberate, so their networks and platforms don't get overwhelmed cos I doubt they have the infrastructure to cope.

This is why I predict we will see stats that most of their users will be using the GTP-4o app that OpenAI demonstrated. In fact, that's a certainty, given the fact that most iPhone models will not get the SLMs they announced.

So, please. Don't get dazzled by the free food at the press lounge at WWDC and focus on what these announcements actually mean and what the impact is on consumer platforms but also, what Apple and Google's AI announcements mean for the average enterprise. Clue: virtually nothing!

Know when AI will really be intelligent? When it can write its own operating systems from scratch, based solely on users preferences. Then Apple, Microsoft and Google will be out of business overnight! 😂

I also looked into this essay right after the announcement, and men this is incredible! When I saw it fighting neck to neck with mistral 7B, I know it will be good! But the only concern is what if the score are high like the Phi-2. I can only hope that’s not the case for the Apple model. Actually, I believe it’s an entirely a different case. I’m looking forward to the rollout of the Apple I. Still, well done Apple, to bring 3B model ondevice on a phone!

Note that Apple’s AI announcements are only for the mobile iOS, not desktop OSX.
