The old 2.1 was built to last, the newer cars are more refined but poor quality. Mercedes slipped in quality when they joined with chrysler. They realised the cars where rusting into oblivion in the early 2000,s and then made huge improvements. Modern Mercedes are mass produced with bog standard engineering, they no longer endeavour to engineer the best to last for a lifetime, they are now a poor second to VW in quality. German cars are no longer engineered to be the best or to last. Yes I have owned numerous Mercedes, VW,s Toyotas, Ford's, Vauxhalls, Renault etc, Mercedes is no longer a quality Vechile, they are plastic and tin, Ford may be better engineered at this stage

AMG package comes automatically with AMG floormats, the AMG badge was optional straight from the dealer..

I own w213 e350d and I love it. Mine is avantgarde, not AMG line, but still looks gorgeous.

I have the c class, C250d AMG line premium plus, great car worth getting the premium plus plus mine done 120k and still going strong. I have the piano black which I hate though thinking of changing that bit

FFS, Mercedes themselves brought out AMG models of the E and S-class with 3.0 liter engines etc , very nice interior touches, they don´t buy the AMG tags off Ebay!

Bought E class220d 4 years ago. Only issue is the seat discomfort. Otherwise the best for the price.

Word of warning your adblue system will fail at some point 100% even as early as 29k mls. Not cheap fix either had to replace tank pump and level sensor on my 2018 model at cost of £1900 an absolute rip off ..plenty reports of failures online avoid the diesel engines long term. I wouldn’t ever buy diesel e class again.. petrol is by far the safer option ..

Great retro review. I was just behind a GL43 AMG SUV and a CLA with an ANG badge on it. As an owner of a W212 E350 AWD and a real E63 S 2019, I laugh at those humans. As you said.....everything is sn option on most Mercedes. The W212s had turn key ignitions and way less safety features on the base models.....on up to self parking and infared night vision. Without those screens and the upgraded engines, it's not worth it. Just an AMG in a Honda Accord skin. ;) In the States, the W213 E350 Petrol is down 7HP, up in Torque by 22 but, has a 4 CYLINDER TURBO CHARGED ENGINE. What could go wrong? I would never buy a 4 cylinder turbo charged anything, let alone a Mercedes. That 10 years of going to 4 cylinder turbos for 3 more MPG was a joke. (Saved then money.) The Diesel was the way to go in the W213. I'd only buy a naturally aspirated engine. [Unless it was a real AMG...not these horrid new 4 cylinder AMGs....I won't name all the latest models.]

I had an e220 chi manual, no not a Spanish person, when in my 40,s thanks, 20 something yrs ago. It was spacious, fairly reliable, and a lot cheaper than an S class. It rusted before your eyes, seats made from wood, any small part for the manual gear selector was a order from Germany FFs

Test drove a new one of these and was underwelmed. The manufactured engine sound, the play in the accelerator pedal and 4 cylinder motor. A six cylinder without the pathetic piped in engine sound maybe

So much road noise!

Surprisingly my E class with the same engine was much quieter than the one you drove in this video. I guess because the sunroof was open. You can barely hear wind and tire noise in E class 2L diesel. in most of the driving time, the rpm remains under 2x1000rpm/min, except while very quickly accelerating from low speed. So the engine generates a lot of power at very low rpm. It is the most comfortable and cozy car for long-distance journeys. Efficiency is just great 5-6 liter/100Km. And most of the typical issues with the previous W212 generation have been fixed. I just sold my E class to give an electric company car, but I must say that I have missed it so much. Greetings from Finland.

I've been looking at these vines for a while and wanted to ask a question... with a budget of £9,000. would you buy a 2011 mercedes c class coupe for around £6,500 or would you buy a newer one like 2013 for the budget cap at £8,000???

Interesting comment about the road noise. I have driven a number of these E class's and they all suffer from much more road noise than you would think, no matter what the model or wheel size. I've got a 2018 model with only 18" wheels, but I would say that excessive road noise is the only real negative about the car. It means that long distance trips (which this car should be good at) are no where near as relaxing or stress free as they should be. Hit any coarse tarmac (which is everywhere in the UK) and the noise drums though the car in a most distracting way. Passengers often comment on it as well. I've tried different tyres and had extra sound proofing fitted but It's made no difference. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive to road noise?! I might try a Jag or 5 series to see if they are any better.

I agree with all that you said about the E class, I'm on my 8th. My favourite, like many, is the 124. The one that came out after it was quite poor. The Nox sensor is a common fault, should be a recall, but isn't and can cost €1,000 to resolve

A low mileage 220 4Matic Premium Plus.
You were right, it ticks all the boys-toys gadgetry boxes, and at the same time nearly makes me look like a grown up.

Im a driver ,and i can tell uou why i use amg mats ,its much easier to clean them for sure .i even changed a car 2021 e300 hybrid now and still use those amg mats from 2018 amgline )

What about the fact the e220 has a renault/Nissan engine and has major cam shaft, timing chain and top end issues. Added you can't get the Knox sensors from merc 6 month wait. Terrible car

Was it a windy day when you filmed this? The noise from the outside seemed rather high for such a car.

Buy the E400d. It really is the sweet spot in the E class range. 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and 700 nm of torque!

Talking about old Mercs, I have got an inclination to get a CLS many next year, do t ask why as I have no idea😂
I’ve had a few German barges over the years, including an absolute ton of Audis, and a few BMWs, but never a Merc, I like the CLS as it looks a little quirky, but it would have to be a old-ish petrol, up to about 5-6k, any chance of a review?? And what’s your thoughts you lovely people
