It’s a close call if in 1885 you still consider Canada British
ОтветитьA very good video, and thank you for pointing battle deaths were minor(?) comparatively to deaths from disease even as late as 1885. The situation wouldn't change until the Second World War.
ОтветитьThe Mardist was driven by more than only a revolution of an expansionism of a partcular branch of Islam. The revolute would reap a cash crop of slaves. The Islamic slave trade had been going on for over a thousand years. The majority of slaves were millions of Africans enslaved in addition to Europeans and American sailors. Great Britain had outlawed slavery. If an Islamic man impregnanted a black African- slave the child was often killed. Ignorance is bliss.
ОтветитьAnother interesting video Chris. I don't know why but I always assumed the Redcoats continued until the end of Victoria's reign.
ОтветитьThey fought at Guinness? No wonder that everything went according to plan.
ОтветитьBrilliant! But some people say a Maxim battery from the Connaught Rangers may have fought in red at the Battle of Ferkeh in 1896.
ОтветитьIncredible work I can’t get enough
ОтветитьYou forgot Lexington. Remember Paul Reveres call: 'The Bristish [Redcoats] are coming!'
ОтветитьI'm a historian and author based in Scotland, loving your videos, as I've been laid up after an operation, thank you. give me an email if you ever want to do some joint videos about the Jacobite wars UK and Ireland.
BTW I'm pretty sure the tiny band of British troops who helped defend the foreign legations in Peking in 1900 wore red, as they were only supposed to be there for ceremony
All the best
Been watching alot of this lately ! A world war 1 series covering their african campaign by you would be awesome mate ! Keep it up
ОтветитьAnother great story.
ОтветитьWest Kents seem to crop everywhere. Kohima
Ответитьwell done.
ОтветитьWe’re they not in their red coats in The Boer War.
ОтветитьHopefully people understand that the thread is to a past that was evil AF and driven by the profits that could be gained by killing other humans.
ОтветитьI knew nothing at all about that battle. Many thanks for a great and informative video.
ОтветитьSome british troops wore the red coats in the 1st Boer war !!
ОтветитьInteresting. My roots are from Sudan and I have never heard of this battle before, even though i have heard of Shikan, Gordon's story, Toshki, Omdurman et al.
ОтветитьGreat. So interesting
ОтветитьNot to be confused with the Battle of Guinness, the ongoing struggle to find a decent pint outside of Ireland.
ОтветитьMy great grandfather was killed at the battle of ginnis. He was camping in the next field and he went over to complain about the noise.
Ответить🤔👍👍
ОтветитьThe battle of Ginnis 1885, not as well known as the battle of Guinness refought every friday night down my local Irish pub 'the pickled leprechaun'.☘
Ответитьiv`e just been to Egypt again ..... While in Aswan near to Sudan ! ` i was talking to a boat captain which did ferry trips to Sudan .... whot do you do if there fighting there ? we don`t sail ? lol its a running joke about sundan always having fights going on ... great story thanks 😀
ОтветитьMore fantastic content, thank you.
ОтветитьThis is a fabulous channel.
ОтветитьExtremely interesting!the Mahdist wars have Always been for me exciting.Heroes like General Gordon or Fred Burnaby,Wolseley,Grenfell deserve always the greatest admiration...Thank you so much for this wonderful program!
Ответить“Why aren’t YOU in khaki?” (WWI British recruiting poster).
1885: “Why aren’t YOU in redcoat?”
😊
A bunch of criminals got what they deserve. Too bad their descendants haven't paid for their sin. That day is coming
ОтветитьDeaths galore from Heat Stroke is well explained by the way these warriors were required to button up in heavy uniforms despite the color!
ОтветитьExcellent bit of information. Much appreciated.
Ответить"Battle doesn't just happen'!
How very true !!!
The British had to travel a very long distance in order to die....Here it is 2023 and, the same situation still exist today... No wonder the middle East hates the European nations....Come what may, The European military should be concentrating on the European issues.,..
Another example of your fantastic skills! Excellent job!
ОтветитьWhat were these greedy plundering tommies doing sofar from London Answer : assuring their illegal campaigns to rob foreign countries, whilst genociding China and destroy it with their dirty opium. Nothing to be proud, shameless amoral hypocritical plundering nation.
ОтветитьThis is like dressing up for the last time in the uniform that brought them glory, very emotional for the troops aI assume, The multiple uniforms and diverse forces is very intriguing too, that is something that fades away in WWI with Standard uniforms.
ОтветитьLook at Sudan NOW.
ОтветитьIt’s kind ironic that one of the most iconic symbols of the British Empire went out not with a bang, but a whisper
ОтветитьSuper interesting, Chris. You have a way to bring these events to life. Thank you.
ОтветитьI’d have been gutted if I’d have been in the Durham light infantry with everyone else in the red coats! Like turning up to school in uniform on non uniform day because you forgot! Great video
ОтветитьI read in a book about Young Winstin Churchill, that Beor children gathered arount the British POWs to see their red coats. They were very disapointed.
ОтветитьYou, Britains, are proud of your past and that is good for you. You fought throughout the planet and civilised many nations. You were a positive factor of the world`s history. Bravo.!!!
What makes me anxious is that you are now being overwhelmed by muslim influence. I believe you must put an end to this catastrophal evolution. In a few decades you will be a minority in your own country, You need to resist!!!
(I`m Greek and we don`t face such problems because of economic problems - muslims just come for a while and then relocate into richest countries)
I wonder how much changing into those heavy red uniforms affected the sunstroke casualty amount?
ОтветитьThe battle of Guinness ... I thought that took place in Ireland 😂
ОтветитьIt is always the same. Powerful industrials send fooled people to die for them and their financial interests. Said this, there is no honor in killing or dying at a battlefield. It is just a butchery. Sorry for them.
ОтветитьA complete aside, was the unfortunate Grenfell Tower block perhaps named after Maj Gen Grenfell? just sprung to my mind, probably not.
ОтветитьAh, the 'Fuzzy Wuzzies'
ОтветитьI keep hearing Dad's Army theme in my head...whirling dervish
ОтветитьPassed you on to a friend, love your videos Chris you are the type of history teacher my husband should have had. Thank you and Happy Easter.
ОтветитьRubbish they were red in the Boer war 10 years after. You know fuck all.
