I think they missed a great opportunity for one of Tony's lawyers to swoop is grab the envelope and pay JJ without Peter even knowing about it's contents. It would have perfectly encapsulated how Tony deals with problems and it is obvious that JJ didn't really care about the money, but just to receive a 5 million dollar check would have infuriated him to no end.

Whats 5M to a multi Billionaire, plus peters work more then makes up for it and as we saw in Spider-Man Brand New Day the bugle typically goes down under without pics of Spider-Man and in the circumstances of civil war with Spider-Man as a Registered Government Hero if JJJ trys to talk down spidey hes basically calling out the government and at thay point forget Spider-Man youd have Tony, SHIELD and the US governments attention for deformation of character or Tony just Buys the Bugle and uses it to promote Pro Registration and uses it as a tax right off

That thing of Jameson giving Peter a job because of his uncle's death is a retcon from waaaaaay after Civil War, and that's relatively irrelevant to the decades of Peter and Jameson's relationship at all. Fans desperately latch to it because they love the generic trope of "asshole actually being decent in secret", but it plays no role on Jameson's reaction to the Civil War reveal, Jameson felt betrayed because he saw him as hardworking and honest.
