I remember as a kid growing up in manly , we would walk along that stone wall and spot all those animals that were hidden in the stones.
We would swim at the Manly bars and the waiting pool in the summer.
We eat chips and drink soft drinks with our parents at the manly hotel and the waterloo.
Ahh the 90s in Brisbane ❤
You made it seem like it’s actually a lovely place. ❤
ОтветитьI grew up in wynnum North in1975
ОтветитьTRIVIA: The image of the green cross man at time stamp 10.41 is David Prowse who was Darth Vader (sans voice) in the original Star Wars trilogy
ОтветитьMy Grandfather lost his little brother on that track in RIP, Cecil.
ОтветитьThose may have been interesting if it wasn't so woke.
ОтветитьLike a lot of others here in the comments. As a guy from Wynnum, I enjoyed that so much. I hope you enjoyed it mate. I take my kids there still whenever I get the chance. They love the waterfront.
ОтветитьThat low underpass you walked under even some utes go under there and run into trouble with their loads getting stuck
ОтветитьGrew up there. First lived there in the 70s. The original name is Winnam. Thank you for acknowledging the Indigenous history. The original history.
Ответить"Subsequent" rains huh.
More like council destroyed them.
Hi Rob, such a shame you kept switching from one end of Wynnum then Manly and then back to Wynnum, made it a bit disjointed, but still enjoyable!
ОтветитьMy family go back to the 1890’s in Wynnum -Manly. There is so much history in the wider district. The WM historical society has a wealth of knowledge and information for those wanting more details. The Gumdale historical society is also worth a look.
Thanks for your vid. I quite enjoy them.
Do you think you can do a short story about the Redland Bay flying boat base, during the post world war period?
ОтветитьWhat's that? You want to do a video on Nundah/Toombul?
ОтветитьAs a child I used to visit Wynnum with my parents quite often. I could never comprehend how when I looked to the east I saw land when it should have been ocean. I had no idea that North Stradbroke's high dunes were what I saw..
ОтветитьIs this the train station from the "ciggie-butt brain" sketch?
ОтветитьThe green cross code was a pedestrian crossing psa
ОтветитьVery clear photography, makes we want to go there for a visit!
Ответитьdangerous? you clearly havnt been to dakabin
ОтветитьJust came across this video, and thank you so much for it! Its amazing seeing people appreciate the town(?) I grew up in (though much younger than a lot of those in the comment section). A bit of the retaining wall from wyvernleigh still holds up the catholic school there, and i remember reading that plaque many a time waiting at the school pick up!!
ОтветитьProbably the biggest historical man-made construction in Wynnum wasn't even mentioned - The Wynnum wading Pool. It's very hard to miss as it takes up a good length of the Wynnum waterfront.
ОтветитьI’m not afraid of heights, I’m afraid of wits. Too right brother😀
Ответить🌝 Love that area. Caught some nice brim on that jetty at the end. Thanks for posting🙂
ОтветитьI would still feel better getting on and off at that station than getting on or off a train at Kingston Station then walking off the platform and over the connect BACKWARDS telling the 10 lads slowly following that THEY WILL take me down But One of You WILL lose a Eye or Nose and another will die with me as both my thumbs penetrate his Brain via their Retinas or what crazy people call Skull /////// They would slowly stop and turn around giving it a miss, Me getting off from my job in Eagle Street Brisbane City when working for AMP and going to my home in Kingston.
I lived in a 10 House Cul de Sac Street that had the Kuraby Murderer living there and 4 others Murdered from 1988 to 1992 and the weird sword guy 4 houses from me was shot and killed in,, 😆,,, Wynnum - Manly when he charged police with his sword. I Packed my little family of Mum and 3 little girls and moved 400 km away on 20 acres,60km from the nearest town Luckily as 3 little girls turned into 5 little girls And as I was originally a young Sydney Westie from the Fairfield, Mt Duitt and Penrith area in the early 1980s I knew My Children were Not growing up in the same surrounds...... Wynnum Manly is a Retirement Town / Village with Sun and the Sand the poor mans Caloundra. 😄😄
Fun fact; I once picked up an elderly woman in my taxi from the Wynnum RSL and the taxi I was driving that night had a particularly tall aerial. This meant that if I tried to go under the Colina Street bridge it would most likely break as it didn't fit. However, this lady would not have it that I couldn't go under the bridge. Thankfully I was back in the old Prius V the following evening.
ОтветитьI used to live here.
I lasted 3 months and simply just walked away from my rental because the drugs and crime was so bad.
Could not go anywhere without seeing needles , drugs , fights , people being grubs.
i've lived in this area my whole life, and i didn't know most of this history. i'll definitely wander about more often. it is nice to see an outsider acknowledge that damn bridge though. it's comically low
Ответитьmost deadliest is most worst
ОтветитьDangerous, only the no. 1& 2 lowest bridges in Australia are dangerous here, & are only streets apart.
Wynnum Beach is nice & there's lovely areas particularly for families in many places around here.
PS Tingalpa means "Tingal" - Fat (rich, abundant) "Pa" - Place.
There was indigenous events here, including wars because of its abundant environment. It has history & a character, that started well before "settlement".
I remember a school excursion to Saint Helena Island. It was great. They still do tours.
ОтветитьIt was still called Blacks Camp in the 60s.
ОтветитьShame they demolished the old low railway bridge. Don't like that concrete monstrosity. Never went under it with my Jeep but did with my Falcon and if I had the country aerial on it would give the timbers a good wack. I moved in 2018. Often walked from Wynnum to Lota with my Husky and Malamute. It was a nice walk. Interesting to see the seafood restaurant\retailer at Wynnum being closed and in such a state. I think they'd been struggling for years. There were a lot more derelict boats in the creek. Council removed most of them. If they could not contact the owner or the engineers said they were still seaworthy they had to be left. A lot of them were under water. It was interesting looking at them and wondering how they ended up like that.
ОтветитьDoes anyone remember the rotunda at pandanis beach near the Wynnum wading pool. Were they rifle slots in the removable walls, I remember someone saying to me when I was a kid that the local Aboriginals would attack the area and the early settlers would take shelter in there. True or false I don't know.
ОтветитьI use to sit across from the old fish markets mid afternoon and watched the staff feed pelicans with my son
ОтветитьShame you missed Petersen Street Park Which was a WW1 Hospital and Moreton House
ОтветитьPlease do St Helena Island
ОтветитьWhat an excellent video. Thank you for that Rob. We're off there right now and feel much more informed than we used to be. I reckon you could kayak to St. Helena. Just head over to Green Island and turn left. Getting back might be a bit of a paddle though.
ОтветитьI grew up in Wynnum North 2000 onward. Loved so much about this palce. That bloody bridge was always a laugh. I worked at the Waterloo Hotel and fished off the peir. Got so much grief atound the trainos though😅 bit of a rough place from time to time but redeemable qualities. So nice to see this little walk about tour
ОтветитьMy Mum and Dad used to own the fish market i'd say late 90's/early 2000's. I remember being very young and being there all the time!
ОтветитьI think the boats look nice just weathering away it looks interesting
ОтветитьPeople can be difficult... You just gotta Wynnum!
