Hate the lower floor
ОтветитьIn a few years i hope they're ll be a sequel
ОтветитьBad luck that day, was on the floor when I travelled on one of these
ОтветитьNext time you are in Zurich..enjoy switzerland a bit as well ;)
ОтветитьIt would be so cool If you would take the Orient Express to Istanbul or at least to venice.
ОтветитьI’m excited about taking the nightjet. I have two of them booked. Salzburg to Rome and Florance to Vienna.
ОтветитьI always would compare it to an Airplane travel travel. It might be faster at some points but its not more comfortable at all especially in economy. The standing still and "banging" you experienced could be that they changed the locomotive because the european countries using different power supplies so in some countires they need to change the locomotive that is able to operate with the powersource
ОтветитьI don't know what he's like7 months down the line...but boy is Jack a cute little human . Best wishes to you all..
Ответитьyou have to book "Deluxe-Abteil"
ОтветитьWhen I was a kid (I"m 74), we had sleeper cars and amazing trains in the US. Lost all of this--I don't think Amtrack (with exceptions) is anything like those trains. They had beautiful dining cars and huge picture window trains (can't recall what they were called). Mostly did not have private bathroom, irrc. Looks very similar--maybe cleaner. :D (Just googled, they do exist now. I don't think that I'd sleep in that though.)
ОтветитьHi black forest family, Great video.
Why didn’t you start your journey direct in your home town Freiburg. The night-jet to Hamburg stops there I mean?
Regards
Zurich to Prague isn't Nightjet service. It's Czech rail service so that's why it's different type. Czech rail send just one carriage and part of the journey it goes together with Nightjet train from Vienna.
ОтветитьOn my first nighttrain travel I traveled from Berlin to Budapest via Prague. On the way to Budapest (EN477), there was a Polish IC train (IC 2079) attached which included one of this WARS dining cars (which are excellent because they cook fresh there). Unfortunately the IC ended in Dresden where it was hung off. In Couchette I was able to open the window fully.
ОтветитьOnce I saw there was a cheaper night train option with reclining seats in the otherwise normal day travel layout, so I thought I was booking that but instead it was a compartment with 6 seats, 2 strangers and no conversion to beds, It was just the seats. Luclily the third person left halfway through the night so we could lie sideways on the seats. Part of the problem with night travel is Europe is a bit too small, depending on the stop, you may get on really late at night and may get off REALLY early in the morning.
ОтветитьThis train stops in Freiburg too.
ОтветитьThe chairs can be made flat if you combine 2 opposing seats so you can actually sleep if you are 3 people in a compartment or fewer. Its not very comfortable, but well - affordable. I think they are going to extend these trains all the way to Scandinavia.
ОтветитьYou should have gotten two pair of simple but effective slippers in the goodie bag?
ОтветитьWhen I was a kid in the 80s and 90s, Deutsche Bahn (or rather its predecessor Bundesbahn) operated quite a lot of sleeper trains. And even better for my family, auto trains. We used them a lot. Took the car to Hanover, drove it onto the train, got into the couchette (we were five people, so we always had one compartment for our own), and arrive at our holiday destination reasonably well rested.
There was a short epigramme about used - if I remember correctly - to advertise the sleeper trains:
Als wir noch in der Wiege lagen
Träumten wir schon vom Liegewagen.
(When we were (still) lying in the craddle
We already dreamt of the couchette.)
20years ago , I took the city night line from Hamburg to Zürich and back. It was operated by SBB. BTW, it seems your videos do not show up , if I don't really search for it. FYI
ОтветитьI am Icelandic and living in Hamburg Germany since 30 years. Have traveled all over the world. I love your show and I really liked to hear, that you got married in Iceland. Your Show is very informative and sometimes funny. Very good quality and well done. Keep up the great work. 👍 💖
ОтветитьI want to get on Nightjet someday. Thank you for the wonderful video. from Japan
ОтветитьGo and travel with Ooh bebe train! (Return with Oh lala airlines.) 😁😉
So cute!
At the long stop in Hannover they decouple the part to Berlin. Thats alsow why thear are the loud bangs.
Ответить👍
ОтветитьRecently had a very bad experience on the Nightjet (Zurich to Zagreb). Staff was very rude and some insisted there's no breakfast included in my ticket even though it clearly says there is. There was a 8 hour delay because of a storm in Austria and they couldn't reroute (because of the car transport I think). My journey ended up being 24 hours instead of 14 also because of construction work and we had to switch to a bus. Zero announcements throughout the journey, had to ask the staff what's going on and they spoke almost zero English so in reality had to find out from the people in my room. In the end arrived completely starving because they didn't provide me any food. The way back was okay but again the staff was rude.
ОтветитьYou could also check out for the dedicated family compartments on ICE. We once had that with our toddler on a trip to Rügen and we were amazed how much space you have in there.
ОтветитьWell. I must have been 4 to 5 years old and it may have been over 30 years ago when I had my only sleeper train experience from Hamburg to the Schwarzwald by visiting my parents friends . I remember a more "couchette" like room but with quite good mattresses. It was a nice way of traveling and an adventure as a toddler.
Ответить@Blackforestfamily Wonderful! 🙂Which cameras did you use in this video? Good HDR kinda tones, especially in the train station. Please reply

Greetings from Albania. 🇦🇱
plz dont take us accountable for the austrians.......( there is a reason why they got their own place)
ОтветитьSoo you're from northern Germany, yet can't even pronounce ÖBB?
Also, the "loud bangs" are because they split the train. Half the train goes to Berlin.

ОтветитьGreetings from Austria! As member of a ÖBB-Family (most of my relatives work there) it is always nice to see people enjoy our railway. Right now there are modernized Night-train coaches in progress, they probably will be on track in the next years and give a lot more quality of life when traveling with them.
Until now the focus of the ÖBB was to cover large parts of Europe with night-trains, and they did a very good job (Germany wanted to scrap the entire idea in 2016 and Austria bought their wagons) - soon it is time for the next step in improving the interior. There definetly is progress going on in the background and maybe in a few years you will travel again with the ÖBB in one of the new generation Nightjets. Gute Reise / Have a nice trip!
This train is coupled with a Berlin section.
ОтветитьThe double deckers sleeping cars were built in the 90's
Ответитьjust a comment (as was pointed by another viewer recently) OEBB inherited all DB rolling stock, and they do have different carriages for different routes. It is not always easy to determine which carriage you will be getting on a certain route (some are double deckers, as you found out already). Hopefully, this will soon be addressed when they get their new carriages in 2023 (?)
ОтветитьHi Johnason hi Ashton you have to realize and remember Wi-Fi on trains is a foreign word. 😉😉 Maybe you just didn't have a connection.
ОтветитьI have a phone plan, with UNLIMITED 4G . In Europe, from the Netherlands to Crete or the island of Kos. Just from my provider. And also secured!! I can watch F1 anywhere in Europe. It doesn't matter where I am. Belgium, Germany or France. Hey Europe!
ОтветитьAnd is there a discount? Per region for € 9.-¿ Greetings from Spakenburg Netherlands.
Ответить"Sleeper train" sounds like from a Soviet spy movie :) What a nice way to travel through Europe. Back when "Die Reise ist das Ziel" was true :)
ОтветитьThe Deutsche Bahn has cancelled the night trains, because the most people with kids travel by car and the other take a often cheaper flight wich is alos mostyl done in ca. 1 hour. I fly inside Germany often and some propeller flight conncetions are also adventure - esp. with a De Havilland DHC-8 were everything is rattling. (I should buy a rosary and pray for a save landing)
ОтветитьI also thought the ÖBB night train beds were super uncomfortable. There was no space for suitcases so we had to share the tiny uncomfortable beds with our big suitcases.
